Ah well. The key words here are learning experience.

Oh sweetheart, I don't have to run faster than the bear...
I am so far behind from where I wanted to be by now however I am trying out straw bale gardening this year - I have 16 bales composting right now. I am still adding well composted manure to my main garden and hope to start planting this weekend. I really want to transition to no till gardening. I was inspired by this free video http://www.backtoedenfilm.com/ I'll be working on it as the summer progresses and hopefully will be all ready for next year.
I have
tomatoes & peppers from an old Italian man that I always buy from plus tomatoes and peppers I started myself inside
red florini corn
Red Ace Organic Beet
Lennox Organic Cabbage
Anton Organic Zucchini
Waltham Butternut Organic Squash
Cherry Belle Organic Radish
Siberian Organic Tomato
Cortland Organic Onion
Rubin Romaine Organic Lettuce
Marketmore-76 Organic Cucumber
Scarlet Nantes Organic Carrot
Provider Organic Bean
and random others that I will find places for when I get organized
I have some herbs started in the window sill that are doing great.
My rhubarb, chives and dandelions are well under way - I worked hard on the dandelions (so glad they made it!)

I am not going to write out everything that we do, but I have put up the link that showed last years and it has a link to the 2010 harvest..
Over the past couple weeks, we have added in 3 new cherry trees, White Current bush, 3 New white/green grapes vines, added in at least a dozen or more new herb plants, all giveaways from friends, Planted another patch of potato's (our first ones done in April are now 6 to 8 inches high) and we will do another planting in June as that we have a three month stagger, all the potato's this year are from our own seed (five different kinds) We just finished getting out the 90 or so tomato plants I had ready in the greenhouse (9 different kinds, ranging from cherry to heavy roma sauce making with up to a 20 day spread in when they start) plus 40 or so pepper plants, some regular, and some hot, Also put in Cabbage and Brusselspouts, my first batch of green beans are in bloom, and I will be planting out tons more over the next weeks again in different area's and in staggered plantings, It will be a never ending pull and plant over the whole season.
Today's work in the garden will be about working the strawberry beds, and doing a little weeding in the garlic beds, harvesting and drying more rhubarb and tomorrow, I Will be starting dozens more packs of different things in the greenhouse for planting out later in a few weeks in the main garden or the hugelbeets or nursery garden, we will hold off another week before planting the corn for the three sisters, and then its wait till its at least four inches high before planting out many more different kinds of beans for winter drying and then when they are a couple inches high, I will plant out at least five different kinds of winter sqaushes.. I have sweet potato slips started but they won't go out in the main garden till at least the first of june..

Made quick work of it this morning as we are expecting rain this afternoon...perfect timing!
3 sisters -
80' corn (2 kinds)
16 hills nain beans
8 hills butternut squash
8 hills buttercup squash
also...
22' yellow beans
22' green beans
15' peas
4 hills small mixed gourds
need some tires or buckets if I want to do potatoes, but not much time left for that so maybe not this year.
Denob, have you had much luck planting everything at the same time in the three sisters, I have only done that one year and I got ok results but not great, then a friend of mine who is native explained that in her family its a staggered planting sytem and I have had much better results doing so.. interested to hear how you have found yours to be?

Actually, this is my first time doing a 3 sisters...guess I could have done more research.
I got 27 tomatoes and 20 peppers planted today and one large section weeded with the help of my kids and my wonderful parents who came again for the morning. They are both 73 and real troopers!! They are shaking their heads at my "new fangled" ideas about straw bale gardening and using mulch. My dad is old school - he just rotortills everything including weeds 🙂 I wouldn't have gotten it done without them. All the seeds will be planted later today and tomorrow morning when it cools down abit - for their sake and mine 🙂

Oh Happy dance - the bushes I pruned down to a foot tall last year are covered in gooseberries - there's a 20 foot row. I also found some red currant bushes hidden in the jungle part of the garden that look like they will produce something - they need a good trim later this summer for a better harvest next year.

That's awesome, I hear you on the gooseberries, love them, I use them to make alot of my homemade pectin, but can't help but make a few pies as well, with a 20 foot row, you won't be needing to add more any time soon.. my red currents are just now starting to bloom but they look like they will be loaded right down in production this year.. congrats on having a great gardening day!

mmmm gooseberries...how I miss my old garden
I got the beans, beets and carrots planted yesterday along with more peppers and some marigolds. Today I was working on moving perennials out of the main garden and into other beds so there would be more room for food. Hot and dirty work today.

Ok, I'm going to break my stuff down into sections.. Fruit, Veggies and herbs..
So far the only thing I can give a final count on is the fruit.. By that I mean the plants made it though the winter, are thriving, are budding or flowering or have flowered and are starting to set fruit.. will do a poundage count at the end of the year on what I in fact got.. you will see that some things say "wild" that means its a regular wild pick spot that I do yearly(that I help trim the tree's and also feed them with compost etc but they are not on the farm) everything else is on the farm land itself.
