So today, finally, I read through Obama's NATIONAL DEFENSE RESOURCES PREPAREDNESS Executive Order
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/03/16/executive-order-national-defense-resources-preparedness
Now I'm filled with questions, and dread. Will we follow? Will we stay home? Does our government have any similar plans? I've read the Executive Order a few times now and it's scary stuff. Even more disturbing is the fact that the majority of the media said nothing about this four days ago. I've long suspected that the American Government has, for some time, wielded considerable control over the media, and this only cements my suspicions. So where would this leave rural citizenry? Urbanites? Most importantly, what does this mean for the Canadian prepper?
Bill C551 allows them to come anytime they want, do what ever they want
this bill allows them to do anything that they want that was not covered in Bill C551
Back in the late 50's early 60's The "USof A " desided that they were going to put a tariff on all comercial goods coming in from Canada. The Prime Minister of the time said "fine go ahead" 😈 , Then he cut off all the power, water, oil and natural gas the was headed for the states. The USA went on YELLOW alert, and were preparing to march into Canada. The Russians went on Yellow alert or DEFCON 3, and let the states know that if they marched on Canada, they would press the button. This never got published. How do I know? a birdie from NORAD, North Bay told me. 😉

ya, remember being told the same by my Dad who was in at the time.
Now, that being said, that was then, this is now and maybe they would just come up to train large, and never leave. Can not trust them
Wow, ranger2012 and WR...I had no idea. Thanks for the info and the confirmation.

Wow, ranger2012, I never knew it came to that, either. I always 'knew' that the Americans would just walk in and take what they wanted (my mom talked about politics a lot when I was growing up), but I had no idea that it'd come to a head with the Russians involved. Holy crow!
I finally finished reading Mel Hurtig's book: The Vanishing Country, printed in 2002. Here is a bit from the jacket: "This book is about the tragic sellout of Canada. It's about a selfish, grasping, greedy, and powerful plutocracy abandoning the work of generations of Canadians, and the dreams of the vast majority of the people who live in this country, for American standards and values and priorities. It's a book about avaricious and arrogant CEO's, inept politicians, cowardly public servants, and myopic academics who advocate policies that will erode our national integrity, Canadian sovereignty and independence, and the quality of life that has made Canada such a good country in the past." I liked his passion, I could practically feel the table thumping. Every Canadian should read this book. :geek:
About thirty years ago, when my parents first retired to Victoria, my mom started a chapter of "The Committee for a Independent Canada", that was before the internet, she didn't get many people interested in joining. My dad says there are still newsletters in the storage room from that time. (that's so sad)
A couple months ago I read about some 'agreement' that the USA and Canada, and probably Mexico, have that in times of strife (civil unrest) the other countries will send in their military to assist the country in need. I found that quite alarming, we should all just mind our own business. I think it is widely considered that the Americans will be the first to have huge civil unrest, we do not need to be sending our soldiers to help their government.
Australians are going to be roped in too (due to the ANZUS treaty) See link below if you're interested.

vanislemom, I'd heard about that too. I wondered the very same thing the other day, why can't we all just mind our own business?
A friend put it this way, and it makes sense from a politicians pov. If Canada gets invaded, we all know that the U.S has a stronger, better equipped military. So if we agree to come to their aid if they'll come to ours...we're so much the better off for it. Time was when Canadians felt pretty strongly that we would be "wherever" in a supportive role, peacekeeping, teach some small country how to be a militia, etc. A friend here has a brother that went overseas in the last "conflict" and he was constantly telling me things his brother's unit was doing that put them in harms way, and not in a supportive role.
I worry about this latest development because I have two American step-sons that are of draft-able age. Hoping hard that this latest EO is only the POTUS covering his country's butt....

I would like to think that if that were to ever happen the US troops would just secure the infrastructure and resources and not launch an all out offensive on the populous. However, I am pretty sure that all firearms and even supply stashes would be confiscated in door to door searches. Civilian round ups, re-locations and even prison camps could be a distinct possibility. Hypothetically speaking of course.
Let's hope the US does not decide to exercise 'manifest destiny' one day.
