Good that we all have our own ideas. They used to think the the world was flat. And Ann Elk had a theory once.

Bad information will get you dead. There is no reset button. If you read my posts I'm calling people out and asking them to show proof. None of them do. Some people here actually think that Vancouver Island will sink. Not making that one up. It's been refered to twice.

So I don't want to stop any of you from thinking I'm a nice guy. But if you start thinking that I have some good intelligence (Military type and other) and knowledge BEFORE I post then keep reading my posts. The reast of you should find a forum where they discuss ponies.

There is that aggression and sarcasm ( MIlitary type and other??) knowledge....This is not a forum for 'calling people out" It is a forum for people wanting to seek out positive ideas, and "reinforcement" of their ideas, from like-minded people. It is about sharing positive feedback.....being Respectful to those on this forum..... not bullying and trying to pick arguements with others.THE END......PS...I LOVE PONIES!! Peace

I read this post just before going out to play fetch with my Dog, thought of your rude comments briefly as I scraped the mud off my Black Cadillacs!

You know, I have had problems lately flushing the toilet, so I went outside to check the septic tank and guess what I stepped in!
Now I come here and read a few post and find that I've stepped in it again!

Um, if we don't call each other out or self regulate on the ideas posted, this forum will devolve into drivel. There is a reason scientific papers are peer reviewed BEFORE they are published. It is so that others can catch your mistakes, (hehehe) and that people are pervented from publishing faulty information.

What some people are calling for his is the antithesis of this. Where posting are valued for how they make you feel rather than their content, their truth.

It can be easily argued that the information shared here can and will save lives. Thinking that the Island will sink and the economy will collapse in 10 or 20 years is not helping. No proof was ever shown for either claim. so if those are valuable posts to some people becasue they make you feel good then perhaps we should have two sections to the forum? One where we post feel good shit and the other for information backed statements?

I promise I will stay out of the Feel Good section.

I'm sorry, but I gotta cry foul on his assumptions.

I can't speak for how long nuclear power plants can carry on emergency situations without external power, but I can speak for the situation involving the power grid, and can't concieve of something that would manage to take out most of the power transformers on the grid in a single fell swoop.

Conductors (High voltage wires) are sized for the load they are intended to carry. If a surge drove the voltage to high, there would be structural failures in the wire.

Protection and metering are a major function of any and all electrical utilities. The load (electricity in general) is constantly monitored for surges, overvoltage, undervoltage, current differential, power direction... I realize the specifics may not be very useful, but there are hundreds of relays that are constantly testing for anything that is not the norm, and not all of these relays are electronic or computer based in nature. There are types that are mechanical, and an electromagnetic surge wouldn't interfere with their ability to function.

Indeed, if by some fluke something did manage to destroy all the relays that monitor what the power is doing, all of the protective equipment would immediately default to open or off which is again a mechanical interlock within the equipment itself. The power would shut down, but it would happen within milliseconds of the anomaly happening, and the transformers have protection, usually mounted within feet, or even on the transformer itself designed to chop the top off an electrical wave surging into the transformer with enough force to destroy it. They're called lightning or surge arresters, and they're designed to keep the transformer from structural failure when lightning strikes powerlines (which isn't all that uncommon).

Power can then be restored selectively by greatest need as the equipment was for the most part turned off before it was destroyed.

There are emergency measures for large scale equipment failures as well, but they're a back up of a back up of a back up plan. And all of this is listed external to whatever the actual nuclear plants have for emergency procedures.

I'm not denying that it would be a fraught time, and alot of people would likely be very busy, but I find his descriptions in the article go a little to far into the speculative.

This is fact not science fiction;NASA,ESA,AND RUSSIAN SPACE AGENCIES..are very concerned about this scenario...

Lets hope that the power grid safeguards are never exposed to the extremes the authorities have claimed that it is protected against. How many time have we heard that it was the cheapest bid contractors fault, that the cheapest parts were used and the system failed. What was said about the weakest link in a chain, holds true in this aspect also. Remember the North-East black out, that was caused because of one state county not up to grade in the power grid. And the yanks tried to blame that one on us.

Not a bad article. I had forgotten the term kill-shot. Google Major Dames and Noory Coast to Coast Radio around 1-5 January. He uses that terminology also. As for people who think this is not going to happen; cool! You can ignore reality, just not the consequences of reality.
