I got another request for information and an interview yesterday. I'm guessing maybe a few others did as well.
Hi Anita,
I'm a producer at The Current at CBC Radio One, and I'm researching a story on preppers, and the growing interest in this movement in Canada.
I understand you're quite active on the Canadian Preppers' Network website, and I'm interested in finding out a little bit more about you, and about interest in this movement in general. Could you please contact me ASAP?
and after sleeping on it I wrote this:
Hi....,
I can appreciate your interest however I have talked to many people who have been interviewed by various news agencies and/or the NatGeo crowd in the past year and I have yet to find one who was happy with the end result. Most feel they were made to look foolish and many regret it. I hate to paint you with the same brush in assuming your show would be more of the same however my family has decided to spread the message of Preparing through more personal means via the Canadian Preppers website and personal contact. I do wish you well on the show and hope you are able to do the topic justice.
Thanks,
Does anyone out there WANT to do these kinds of interviews? I can pass your name along 🙂

I agree Anita I don't think we need any help, most people think we are wack jobs and totally of our rockers. I have a bit of a sour taste in my mouth with the media, and how they try to portray us, they always have to get that.. [ are you people for real hint in there story's]...And all we are really doing is taking out a little insurance if an event does happen...I have often wondered when Germany was massing troops on the polish border, how many people were prepping, and how many of there neighbors thought they were just being paranoid....
Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...
I will not do another one, unless I get paid. Still waiting to see how much of a wing nut they made me out to be. They ask so many questions, that they can edit it anyway they want to in the end. Thinking back on it, also not sure when the Mic was on or off, and if they will mix and mingle questions and answers. Hmmmm wait and see.

Was that who I think it was?
Yes,
although they were friendly, I passed along way too much info, they changed how they wanted to do things on the spot, changed contact people, and now I am left wondering to be honest.
Hey anitapreciouspearl:
Way to go!
A lot of people get all excited just to think that they are going to be on TV but you ad your family have shown remarkable maturity in sending her a “No thank you” message.
No matter what the reporter says to you about how you will come off, in the end it is the producer, director and editor that have the final say and you can bet that they are not going to make preppers look like the only sharp knives in the drawer, if you get my drift.
It would be wonderful to get others to take a good hard look at what could possibly happen if for whatever reason the grid goes down.
People just need to read PrepHer’s “Living the Prepper Life when **it happens - 1998 Ice Storm post, to see what can happen if Mother Nature decides that you will not have electricity for 2 1/2 weeks to see how smart it is to be prepared.
We do not need anymore tin foil hat wearers pictures, but rather regular 9 to 5ers who choose to think of what can happen if the grid goes down.
I do not trust the media and neither should anyone else.
Once again I salute you and your family for your strong values.

Thanks for the kind words Captain Ahab 🙂 I hope some good can become of the publicity that the media outlets are offering but I'm afraid it's going to be at some naive persons expense. It's too bad normal middle of the road preppers are just NOT exciting enough for TV and radio.
