Might want to check it out if you turn on the radio CBC1, or do that podcast thing.. Just had a guy from calgary and now rawlings is being live interviewed talking about doomsday prepper.

Very,very disappointing...
Here is the link for the podcast...
http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/episode/2012/03/23/preppers/
I was contacted by these people, but when I asked for a list of questions in advance of the interview, they suddenly had other projects to work on...
The show mostly focused on Americans and had a very sarcastic end comment.
Sadly, commenting on the show was not allowed on the website....Hmmmmmmmmm.
Thank you so much for putting up the link, and I agree, I was very unhappy with the interview's overall tone, and the end was indeed just plain rude!
http://livingmydreamlifeonthefarm.wordpress.com/
Listening and thinking it wasn't actually too bad. The ending was rude and undermining everything the "guests" had to say. I wonder if they play something to ridicule every guest on that show or if it's just preppers. The three men interviewed all sounded very rational and balanced to me - the interviewer/editors apparently didn't think so.
It WAS interesting that commenting was disabled! What exactly are they afraid of??
Glad I declined!

Hmm will listen when near free WiFi
I normally like The Current, so that is sad in itself.
Thanks for the link 🙂
Will download the Podcast and Listen to it when I get a chance, but from the replies here I'll be prepared to be offended by the end of the show...

I really enjoyed it and think that they presented themselves very well, the idea of thinking of what we do as an insurance policy really made sense to me.
I emailed Daryl the first gentleman to speak and he emailed me a nice letter back. I will ask his permissiion to repost it here.

I can save some people the trouble of listening...
here is a transcript of the commentators closing remarks
"We've been talking today about Preppers. If society really does break down, it likely won't be very entertaining. But from War of the Worlds to The Walking Dead, many people sure seem to enjoy the fantasy of a world without rules.
Many video games take place in post-apocalyptic lands, but the Fallout series starts with the premise that even preparing for the end is slightly... ludicrous.
On today's Last Word, Here's the Fallout pitch -- rent your space in an underground cave now and outlast the bombs, the mutants and the giant claw-fisted robots. "
...and comments are still not allowed!
DANRIT!
I think I know who's living in a "fantasy world" - what an a***hole! Sooner or later people are going to realise that shi*heads like the interviewer are only out to make fun of decent people trying to take care of themselves and their families. I wouldn't give the time of day to these interviewers - they aren't taking it seriously (and they're making stupid comments up as well). They'll get theirs...eventually!
Russell Coight....outback legend
The establishment only follows public perception, they will at first ridicule us, then violently oppose us. When it's obvious that we're the ones on the right track they'll accept and talk like they knew it all along.
They're looking at the extreme now. Prepping for the end of civilization is ludicrous, that's why it makes a good story.
Prep for food and energy to become a lot more expensive. Not too sexy but makes a lot more sense.
Here's my take on the whole thing....

Denob,
I wonder just how the other one will turn out now, less impressed everyday with participating. Wanting to assist and help others will be turned around thrown out the window and editing will make us look like total Wack Jobs 🙁
CBC, losing points in my books, daily now
Here's my take on the whole thing....

stupid blogger will not accept my wordpress ID and I refuse to make a Blogger one!
Here is my answer, maybe You can post it, I tried about 14 times, and am just giving up, stupid Blogger site, hate the format, hate the Blogger everything!
Cheers 😀
My answer;
Denob,
Normally I agree with your point of view, in this case I do not agree to the whole article. I will address the two main points individually.
Quickly put, they ask lots of questions, you answer faithfully trying to give them an overview of all the situations which could happen. You stress that some ideas are radical or mainstream thinking, and you tell your friends and family to just start prepping for the little emergencies like the power outages which are happening all the time. The end result is editing in a massive and systematic way to create the impression that They are Preparing for Doomsday. The reality of the situation was probably only a small part of the entire interview, yet it is the shocker and hysteria maker that makes it to the fore.
If the Doomsday Prepper's had pre-dated my scheduled Documentary participation, I would have pulled out of the production and stopped communicating with that group or any other groups. As it stands now, I am left in wonderment at the whole direction the Director, Producer and ultimately the CBC Documentary Channel will take the editing towards. Will I be made to look the Wacko fool, the doomsday nut job or the fanciful dreamer of cosmic events. The outcome will probably not be anywhere near the original direction, the direction that I assisted them towards the direction that was given of beneficial contributor to assist others in comprehending prepping and its benefits.
Shame on the editors and sensationalists.
The other part of your comments I do agree with, prep to assist yourself and your family during times of minor strain and conditions. Normally I tell everyone to remember the Ontario & Quebec Ice Storms or the huge Snow Disaster on the 402 in Southern Ontario which had people in their cars for days.
My end goal is an off grid sustainable permaculture farm with agro forestry supplemented by aquaponics. This might seem radical to some, to me it is part of my Wilderness Return Journey, hence my user name. I believe that if more people followed similar systems we could become self sustainable again, depend less on Oil and its' by products while enjoying life to the fullest. This is my long term goal, my retirement plan if you will.

Here's my email to and from Daryl Stratichuk:
Subject: A prepper high five!
Hi Daryl,
I just listened to the cbc radio program and I just wanted to comment that YOU DID A GREAT JOB. You were balanced and believable and well spoken. I was not happy with the way that things ended with the mock commercial! Unfortunately they have turned off the commenting on the website – wonder what they didn’t want to hear
I am a regular poster on the Canadian Preppers board and blog and thought if you aren’t already you might like to join us. We’ve been talking about the program and would love to hear more from you about this experience and all things prepper. Two of us were asked to be on the program as well but we declined.
You can find a friendly bunch here: http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewforum.php?f=6
We’re a subgroup of the internationpreppers network.
Hope to see you around
----------------------------
It didn't turn out anything like I was led to believe it would but... what can I say? I gave them my best, though they didn't seem to use much of that...
My wife and I have always taken a balanced common-sense kind of approach to prepping... As I said, (but little was used in the broadcast), our parents and grandparents' generation always had a preparedness mindset... I could tell lots of stories about what my grandparents on the farm did. Nobody called anyone a prepper back then. It was just normal common-sense living. It was a key part of their value system and what it meant to be looking after one's loved ones.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have been on the radio, but I have to say I was rather disappointed with what they chose to use from the 2 hours of recording they did with me. The impression the producer gave me and how thankful she was for what she said was a "wealth of excellent content" that I gave them versus what they rather poorly edited and used were two totally different things. I had talked about much of the same stuff the other two gentlemen did as well as more about the "why" of prepping and the differences between potential scenarios and whatnot. I really gave them the lowdown on CDN preppers, too. I brought it down to earth for the average person or newbie to prepping... But for whatever reason, they didn't include any of that, much to my surprise, as I was led to believe otherwise.
Oh well... unfortunately, it seems clear in the end that they wanted some sound bites... There's definitely more to a bug-out kit than me turning on my survival radio and blowing my survival whistle...which they seemed more interested in, but they left all of that out which was amply recorded during our 2 hours.
I hope the kind of people that need to hear about prepping, were listening. Perhaps they will also visit my website and read my book, "Surviving What's To Come", as you and I both know, there's a lot more to prepping than merely what one might include in a car kit or bug-out bag. Nor can you do it justice in 30 minutes on the radio.
I guess I'd also have to say I'm not surprised they turned off the commenting on the website as you said... It was pretty clear from the producer that they had a certain agenda for the program. It was originally supposed to be longer, too, but it looks like it was cut down to 30 minutes. I'd be curious as to why you declined to be on the program...??
Thanks again Anita. And yes... I've made a few posts on the board. Ironically, great response from American Preppers, but very few from Canadians. I know they're out there somewhere... I'd rather believe we're passionate Canadians than passive Canadians, right?
By all means, if you and your prepper friends haven't yet done so, I invite you to read my book on my website. I'd love to hear any comments or feedback. There's a lot more to prepping than meets the eye, and as I've said to many a person... "there's surviving... and then there's surviving well". The latter is amply possible nowadays... people just need to know a bit more about their options and the stuff beyond the food or gear that goes into one's kit or supplies... I challenge readers with that in my book.
Thanks again.
Daryl
