Can anyone recommend a brand of propane burner to be used for canning and the cheapest place to get one? I have seen several people suggest just use an outdoor turkey fryer.
I am doing a canning party this year as I have my mom's canning to do as well as my own. My step daughter and niece have asked if they could help.
I've always wanted to know this! I have a Coleman stove and if the power went out indefinitely, I'd have to can all my frozen good on my propane stove.
I'm sure any propane stove would work.
One thing is for sure...you know that little side burner on the BBQ? Don't use that! It is not stable enough for large pots or canners. That said, be aware that many portable propane stoves have burners between 10 000 and 12 000 btu. This will probably work, but it will take a long time and use a lot of fuel. I would go for the larger turkey fryer setup or the corn boiler like the ones they rent out. They are higher btu and are made more stable.
OR if you run out of propane, make 16 brick rocket stove or one made of round heat vent pipe with 2x 90* elbows on it. Same thing just a little different. just make a stand for the pot to sit on. Creates a lot of heat with very little wood.
