Not an expert, but I'd say no. 😯
The rats in the clip were eating the crops...probably OK to eat. BUT, what are the rats in the city eating????

*cringing at the thought*

I f'in hate rodents! I am terrified to the point that I will pass out if I see one. The only one I would want to see is being devoured by a snake!
But if you are looking for squirrels, I highly recommend coming on over with your gun, shooting the ones that get into our attic and taking them home. I am perfectly ok with that! (and I will make some beans and rice, dig out a bottle or two of wine for you as you shoot em up upstairs!)

I have several recipes for squirrel. Some class specifically for red ones. I don't know if there is a difference between the colours or not.

Eating rats was one idea to help solve the rat problem. But after reading a bit more they are trying to figure out if they are carrying the "supper bug" virus. The little buggers chewed through power lines Dont know why they didnt get fried.

Lovely black plague from rats again.

In the words of my grandpa years ago... "Red squirrels are delicious, black or grey not so much" and I would want to vomit.

Furry tailed tree rats, after you skin and quarter them, brush them with oil, dust them with seasoned flour and fry till brown. Add a pint of water, some wild garlic, onions and what ever tubers that are available, makes a nice stew. If your stick baking apply oil first as any of the rodents tend to dry out and become tough.

Rats - city or country - I wouldn't eat. I'd rather eat bugs, and I'd rather not eat bugs.

I've only been hunting for about 5 years, but I do take some squirrel when I can. Around my area, there are Eastern Grey Squirrel. I take black, grey, reddish ones and once an albino, they are all eastern grey's though.
The meat is very lean. To me, it doesn't taste like anything really...but it absorbs other flavors easily. So, if you want it to taste like chicken, mix it in with some chicken. I made a batch of turkey soup with half squirrel meat and the wife and kids had no idea it was in there. I couldn't pick out the meat either, and I put it in there. Brunswick stew is usually how I make use of it.
