Scored a large Samsonite hard shell suitcase with wheels and the key from work this week. A room guest left it behind, empty except for the key, and the front desk person got tired of it sitting in the reception area, and wanted it gone, like take-it-home-if-you-want-it gone. I couldn't believe my luck, I brought it home, but said that I'd give the owner a month to reclaim it before I considered it mine.
Today I bought a nice smaller hard shell suitcase from the Sally Ann for $6. This is all fitting nicely with my plan for old age/armageddon to live out of suitcases, roughneck totes and 'campaign' furniture.
Earlier this week I got a practically brand new pair of rubber boots from the Sally Ann, also.
Vanislemom, I LOVE second hand stores! I go at least once a week. 🙂
Today I was at Bibles for Missions (BFM is what I call it) and I scored a vac pack machine with 3 different sized bag rolls... in the box with warranty and instructions included for $10! My old machine broke a few weeks before Christmas. I am so happy with this find! So. this weekend we will be doing up some more jerky and some dried fruits. I vac pack, label them and freeze 'em!
I grabbed a few things that were on sale... cans of chicken and rice soups, shampoo, pastas, another box of borax and washing soda(I use these to make my own laundry soaps at home), some tp, canned some button mushrooms. Got some heirloom veggie seeds and we are going to try and grow some more stuff indoors. Plus reorganized some stuff. I know I did more, I just can't remember what it was lol
We are in the same mindset mamizzy, lol.
Getting lot's done lately, bought a sizable batch of organic heirloom seeds, veggies, culinary/medicinal herbs - some herbs/plants specific to attracting bees/hummingbirds. I will be starting some seeds tomorrow, storing the rest. Hit some more sales, tinned goods, coffee, millet, and dehydrating a mammoth bag of onions, carrots and doing some more beef jerky. Re-organized the inventory to make room, tricky but it is put away and concealed.(Apartments are a pain...)
BTW : I buy cheap cooked seasoned beef ends for discount at the Great Canadian Warehouse ...it makes phenomenal beef jerky! Really tasty, keeps well ... but it puts the "jerk" back into jerky... not for weak teeth! I do some cubed, some in strips...with small cubes I like just tucking a little pc in my cheek and will slowly suck/chew it for a bit. Talk about mileage...lol (The thin strips are easier to chew ... 😉 )
Medicinal herb/home remedy book nearing completion... (but every time I think I am close I come across more info!) Awaiting my gallon castile base via UPS, if it comes, finishing soaps and cleansers will be on the to-do list this weekend.
Got a few more things this week, another 24 cans soup, 36 boxes of mac & cheese, 50 tablets for water purification, found a great oil lamp at the secondhand shop, 6 dozen canning lids, new gasket for my canner, bought more spices. I also received my order of Thrive freeze dried, only six cans to give it a try, it's going to be used in my everyday cooking for now. I also dumped out all my old water and replaced it with fresh. I got a great deal on apples and bought 35 lbs, about 10 of that is about to come out of the dehydrator in an hour. I think that's everything for the week but I might have missed a few smaller food items that I just bought to re-stock short term storage.
Long underwear for my daughter and for my son for his birthday...2 pair each.
Dickies insulated bib overalls for the husband for $45.00... close to 50% off.
Len's Mill Store has great prices for Stanfield long underwear $6.99 a pair and the Dickies line of work wear!

This week was busy, ordered more seeds, ordered a black current bush, 4 huskup female bushes plus one male, a number of the earliest rasberries I could find, I have med and late season but want early as well. Started a number of different plants, had a butcher day, canned Lamb, Rabbit, Chicken and Duck this week, Made a couple batch of homemade cheese for longer term storage, made fresh sheep yogurt, Made a extra large hot manure box for early spring planting, Got a new computer screen as the old died on me, bought a teenage Large Black Boar to go with my Large Black Sow. I have been using a friends but it meant half-breeds so now I will be able to have purebred Large Black Piglets. Picked a area and went though it, did a re-check on inventory and updated the white boards, I made a number of luceted dog collars, Dog Leashes and two new sheep halters. Currently working on tanning a new sheep hide, and starting the process on a couple rabbit hides.

Made a dozen hobo burners and threw a few more in the BOB ( repacked and did a fresh inventory of the BOB) Bought some bleach on sale, coffee, did up some more water.
Bought heirloom seeds for the vegetable garden, multi tier sprouter, hemp sprouting bag for larger sprouting seeds and an assortment of sprouting seeds, and yesterday husband got a good quality pair of binoculars from me for his birthday...you know...so we can see the zombies at a distance 😉
