Had to go to several grocery stores today as not many good specials at any one store 🙁
Food Basics
Bought 2 more cases of bottled water @ 2/$5.00 (12 litres total water)
4 boxes of 36bags/box Red Rose tea on for 99 cents a box...worked out better than Freshco's sale price for the big box with the same amount of 144 tea bags
1 huge box of Tea India bags $5.49 ...I think it's 244 bags, we thought we'd give this tea a try given it's price
19 cans of Aylmer Accent flavoured/seasoned tomatoes at $1/can
Big bottle of LeeKum soya sauce
Metro
15 mixed cans of Sardines and Kipper Snacks @ 4/$5.00
1 4.45 kg/10 lb bag of basmati rice $5.99 ($4-5 off depending which sale brand you bought)
Freshco
4 -1.5 kg cannisters of Chinese fruit jelly cups (like a tiny pudding cup but fruit jelly with chunks of fruit) marked down to 50% off because Chinese New Year is over and done with and they wanted to clear them out ...double bonus because the cannisters are suitable to repurposed for beans/lentils etc.
2- 1 litre bottles of shampoo on for $2.99 ea
Hamilton Korean Food Store
Fermented red pepper paste $3.99
Korean red pepper flakes $3.49 (I'm going to make kimchee!)
Small bag of somen
Small bag of Korean wheat noodles
Korean brand of Brown Rice vinegar $1.49
I'm the lady you're stuck behind in the grocery store with the over loaded cart filled with cases of tuna, peanut butter, huge bags of rice and the weary looking husband
50pds of Bentonite Clay- Detoxifier, Antitoxin as well as Antibacterial
44pds of activated charcoal-Toxin binder
50pds of Diatomaceous Earth-Feed Supplement/Parasiticide
5 gallons of 35% Hydrogen peroxide-Disinfectant/feed supplement

Didn't do much prep wise this week. 😐 I put another 2L bottle of water aside as well as another 2 bags of dried pasta, and another can of tomatoes.

More Jerky.Looked at another dehydrator for fruit and veggies, picked more seeds...started bug out bags for the girls....University students you know..they have the attention span of a gold fish if its not relevant to the present time....Finalised the rendezvous S.H.T.F.place...
Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...
WOW, you guys rock!!
Some interesting stuff there, farmgirl and ratdogmom.
traveler: talking of dehydrators reminds of one I saw in London Drugs the other day, for making doggy treats, priced at $50. lol.
Dragonwriter: yeah, I'm not doing much lately either, still collecting a few recycled food storage containers from the kitchen at work, and #10 cans for paintergirl, for her rocket stove experiments. Country Grocer had Ocean Spray Ruby Red grapefruit juice on sale ($5 for the 3.78 litre ~ 1 gal.) It is my favourite water storage container, so I'm working my way thru the juice with a mickey of gin, and when it's empty and clean it's "Gallon #36" of water.
Finally finished the jerky but still working at dehydrating onions from that 50 lb bag ( Yes, I smell lovely ...lol 😉 - Dehydrated some carrots in between for a break from the onions!)
Did up 6 new gallons of water, refreshed a few older ones. Bought a few more things at the drug store at a recent good sale : Advil, aspirin, fem hygeine, bleach, 8 canned milk, 8 canned fruit, couple more boxes garbage bags. Hit the Dollar Giant and bought a couple of 9 x 12 plastic drop sheets, case of wooden matches for the go bag.
Finished assembling my notebook, covers diverse techniques on everything from water purification, fire, shelter, camp cooking, gardening, foraging, food preservation, first aid etc. The majority of things are in my head, I already know how to do them- but it gives me comfort to know my family will know how or what to do too! )
I have exhausted my search for affordable bees wax and am just using up what I have. I had hoped to find some "B grade" wax, but it appears all the bee keepers around here have closed up shop!
Walmart has their 12 pack of the small cans of Friskies cat food on for $5.87 so I picked up 3 cases ...their BB dates are well into 2013 one case being Dec 2013!
Picked up some Walmart brand (Equate) melatonin to add to the preps too...90 3mg tablets/$6.97 which is a really good price.

I set up my manual grain grinder today - it had to bebolted to a table - a bit of hassle especially after I put one part on backwards -oops. I baked my first loaf of bread and got a great workout grinding the flour.

Very cool looking grain grinder, anita!
I pulled the dehydrator out of the closet, and started dehydrating carrots this morning. (I put it away in between uses, because I'm paranoid about an earthquake. 😕 )
Yesterday I started to clear out my ensuite storage closet, took about half a dozen food grade buckets of varying size over to paintergirl. But I still have more than I think I'll ever use. I need to stop bringing recyclables home from work. I need a intervention, this place is getting out of hand. 😳
My daughter will be moving out at the end of the month, mixed emotions about that, she's moving to the states. But I have plans:
1. cancel internet (already don't have cable, looking forward to not having the distraction/addiction to the internet. *squirrel*)
2. go through this place like a whirlwind and get it organized. Reclaim my enclosed sunroom, get a little kitchen garden going. I need to get this condo in show condition, I keep thinking about selling and moving. I have a ceiling fan for the bedroom that I bought 4 years ago that needs putting up, lots of cleaning and painting to do.
Still waiting for the weather to dry up and warm up to work on the RV. I never realized before that February weather was so awful.

Agreed, great grinder Anita!
Vanislemom, I am turning into a bucket hoarder, but happily so! LOL Everytime I think I have enough of them, I find more uses for them 😀
Busy week for me this week with my son's move, work, so not as much prep as I would wish ...Picked up a few more candles and lcd flashlights/batteries, dehydrating carrots, onions and doing up a few more gallons of water at present - about to go on a massive printing binge from some of those great pdf's that BillyRubin posted in one of the General threads.
Same here...printed out the Vegetable Gardening Encyclopedia and a few hundred pages of The encyclopedia of Country Living.
Where There Is No Doctor has been in my library for some time and is a great resource. When anyone has the time, I strongly suggest downloading the CD3WD set and browsing through it. A great resource for just about any topic. It is a collection of technical papers, articles and short ebooks. Worthwhile to print what ever you need.
This week we focused on the first aid kit being restocked
Bandages of all sizes, ointments, steristrips, alcohol swabs (2 nasty cuts in less than a week in the house and the kit went POOF fast!)
and then we purchased 4 heavy duty rolls of plastic (for dirt cheap!) and tuck tape and more duct tape!
Scissor pack (5 different types of scissors, I bought 2, one to use now and one to go in the closet)
Found sunblock SPF 60 for $4 a bottle (expiry in 3 years) so I bought 6. Now we can replace before we used the ones for this year. (We are all super sun sensitive in the house so this is extremely important to us! We use it all year long!)
Cotton balls, qtips and I got more tp and paper towels! Giant tiger had them on sale for $2.74 a pack then I had a few $1.50 off coupon 🙂 I love those deals.
500+ diapers
1000 + baby wipes
70 + lbs dry dog food
none of which will go to waste!
Also, filled another dozen 2l bottles with drinking water.
drying some more fruit
80 lbs of rice.
20 lbs sugar
20lbs of flour
6 cans hole tomatoes
case of cheese macaronie [ on sale cheap]
12 cans veg soup
6 cans of salmon
48 roles t paper
Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...
2 Large jugs of Clorox bleach that are over 5 litres each...on sale at Walmart for I think it was $2.97 ...it was about 40% off the regular price I think
