I was very pleased with the hanging baskets, I was surprised that no one else saw other idea for them then the freezers, but glad they didn't as I got the whole batch for 2 bucks, I had not thought of the cake pans as barter items but you are right, solid metal bowls that would in a hard pinch work as a pot with no handle would indeed be a good thing. The wire trays caught my eye as once taken to the car wash and high pressue washed, you can lay greens on bottom one, place a another sheet on top, clamp closed and hang them off the big tree limbs and air dry massive amount of greens that way for when you want the good inside drier for fruit and veggies, I had made a homemade version of this once and it worked well but took a fair amount of material to do it, but this would be a super simple method. With as many as I have, I will no doubt find a few other things to try with them and see how it goes.
Wonderful on the bread pans from your mother, I am looking forward to trying out those bun pans, I used to have just those ones back in the day when I worked a kitchen in my twenties, I know just how great they were back then 🙂

I love auctions, the one in London post on the web the majority of what on auction that week. Some of the stuff is sold so dirt cheap it almost makes me sick. Watch for Aladdin Lamps, they have the highest candle power ( up to 60 watt comparison). Last time they came up was in a bulk lot and sold for $5 ea. They normally sell for $120-$400.

I am IN! Just let me get settled in July (if all goes well)and I will farm auction and bargain hunt 'til I am blue in the face lol
Preps this week.... ummmm... put an offer in on a house does that count? lol
Prepping at its finest 🙂
oh and the eggs coated in mineral oil... we are trying that out. Have eggs marked for trying at different times over the next little while. The eggs came from the chicken... to a quick wash... to my trunk... to my fridge! Then tonight, we coated them and are going to wait and see!
mamaizzy - buying a house is top of the list! I hope you find exactly what you're looking for!
I'm writing "farm auction" in July on my calendar and I'll pick you up on the way to Farmgirls place 🙂
I bought (a few - ahem) cases of apple juice - on sale at the superstore for 2/$1.00
1 "bought" 7L of milk for free and will pick up some more today to put in the freezer.
I bought tothbrushes at Shoppers for $1.00 (and later saw that I could have sent away for $1.00 off coupons but they wouldn't have come in time)
I've only used coupons haphazardly over the years but I just joined a free site www.mrsjanuary.com. All Canadian deals and coupons - that's how I found out about the free milk. It's the best canadian coupon website I've ever seen so I am spreading the word.
I found a three wheeled jogging stroller for free on the side of the road yesterday - no cracking jokes about me having a baby! - I'm going to use it as a garden tool cart.

That jogging stroller can be easily converted to a bicycle trailer. Good find.

Nice! I am in! I love a good auction/deal/treasures to be found! lol
Did a little "scrapping" in the area this week and picked up some sheet tin, the kind used for those cheap metal sheds. i figure it would be a start for the roof of the chicken coop.
Also, picked up about a half cord of firewood from fallen trees and limbs on the side of the roads.
With the cord I ordered from my wood guy, I'm starting to stock up for next year.
you are referring to that nasty word that I don't want to hear about for a very loooong time - bad boy!
(great that you're thinking ahead!)
Can't wait to hear about your chicken coop!
I ordered 60 meat birds - they will arrive in two weeks - that will be our first batch for the year. We hope to do 300 (the max allowed for resale) this year.

Just scored a heavy machete with a 18" blade, a hand auger with 5 long bits. 😀

We ordered some Mountain House food from Costco this payday... and the little lady was the one who initiated it. So she may be starting to buy in to the benefits of prepping. Prepping will be easier with both of us thinking about it and agreeing on the financial investment.
Good one Dangphool
