Just an FYI - Right now - June 22 - Canadian Tire has the KitchenAid cast iron dutch ovens on sale - 60% off.
I bought 2 - 6qt and a 3.5 qt.

I haven't been able to find them anywhere else. I was able to get frying pans, and pots.

Thanks bluegrrl, won't get my CT flyer in the mail until later today. I'll definitely pick one of these up tomorrow. As you said they are hard to get and the price is right.

What have you harvested and how much are you canning? I've always been interested in finding some kind of chart to explain how much home canned goods are needed for a specific time period.

Been quite the prepping week. We upgraded our wery inefficient wood stove for a High efficient True North by Pacific Energy made out of Duncan BC and strangely recomended By Les Stroud. Ha. It was recomended to us by Hippies. Double Ha. It won out in the efficiency and quality to cost ratio. Cutting firewood by hand will be no joking matter though.

We also got halfway through a poormans fallout shelter. Youve heard of freinds with benefits. This is a cold storage rootseller with benefits. We duggout a hole on the side of a hill and drove an alluminum cube van into it. The propain took a full day to drain. first I crawled under to drain the oil and coolents as well as the battery. I also salvages the alternator for future electrical. I crawled out of the mud looking like the living dead. Next dry day, Back under I go to brace it close to level....and shoot out the tires. LOL. then begin filling and mounding dirt on it. A secondary hallway and door will have to be constructed from logs.

Last but not.....OK, Definitly least. We got a good deal on 35 lbs of Popcorn. 35 Friggin pounds of comfort food. I guess, I also completted the new escape proof Chicken Tunnels into the garden. Oh yah. Also flattened an area to house a future shipping container to be tranformed into a barn. No one can tell Us that we are uncommited.

I have a Tactical Harness and I have a Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is more Useful.

Started working on my new gardening plot today. Wish I had an earlier start but I will work with what I have.

It all goes back to "store what you eat, and eat what you store" 🙂

How much canned food do you/does your family eat per meal, per week, per month? For example, my family eats pasta at least once per week, so we stock noodles, sauce, meat and spices etc. such that we can have it weekly. Same goes for anything else you eat--how often and how much per meal? Just work it out from there 🙂

There are charts available online, such as on the Mormon food storage websites, that will give you amounts of the basics like grain, salt, oil etc.--but we've never found them accurate for how our family eats. Too much of some things, not enough of others. You need to personalize 🙂

Organized all my ebooks by category and moved them to a USB drive. We have a small laptop with external cd/dvd drive that will be taken with us in case of evacuation. The USB drive also contains driving directions with maps in PDF format and is kept in my fanny pack along with other survival gear such as a bit of cash, matches, lighter, firestarter, foil, etc.
I plan to scan important documents and add them to the drive.
I am keeping an eye out for an inexpensive and small used laptop that I can drop into a faraday box along with a copy of my USB drive.

I've photo copied, all of the pertinent personal info that I need. Along with that, I have some cash and valuables sealed in a tube and buried in a place that is easy enough to get too. What minimals I need is in the garage in a place not easily seen, or would be reconizable.

We filled the barn with hay for the winter - all the big animals feed is taken care of - cool - one year of food storage finished for them - wouldn't it be simpler if we all just ate hay?

Garden work continues - mulching with straw and weeding. I picked a big bowl of red currants today - not enough for jam since we've been eating them right out of the bowl!
