Hey oldschool..... nice boots!
Heading out to a huge flea market tomorrow morning and will be looking for the following...
1 - pressure canner
2 - pressure cooker
3 - hand tools (specifically bits for my hand drill)
4 - toddler sized bunk beds (there's usually a guy there who builds them)
5 - frs or gmrs radios
6 - weatherband radio
Its a bit funny when I go to a flea market, I will automatically find my way to the person that is selling manual hand tools. Rarely is there a time, where I cannot perchance a good guess at the use for some of the more unusual tools around. Being the tinker that I am, I have a variety of hammers, clamps, anvils, hand drills/augers, saws, planes and everything in between and not enough place to use them. I would love to convert a small barn into a shop/house. With the shop downstairs and a living quarter in the loft.

Back from the flea market and had a bit of success...got a 22qt presto pressure canner. Missing the nut under the guage, but that is easy to replace...asked $60....paid $50 (the wife does the bargaining)
Also 2 bits for my hand drill...just starting the collection with these two...at $2.50 a pop, I'm gonna take my time...just keep looking at garage sales and such.
My brother in law needs his taxes done, and has a stainless steel pressure cooker to trade for it...can you say barter?
The pressure cooker is for another project...I can't say what exactly, but let's just say my next purchase will be copper tubing.
I hit up some yard sales this morning and came home with more canning jars- brand new pints for $3 a doz plus a box 6 more "used" ones for 50c. Found some fabric bolts and a book on herbs too.

A friend of a friend called this morning, "I heard you can and s^%&" I replied "Yes" She then said "I will give you my canning jars IF you bring me some of that red pepper goop you made Crystal! I have 39 big jars and 22 of the little ones and if I can get the ones at my aunts you can have them too. I really want that goop!"
DEAL DEAL DEAL! 🙂 For some red pepper jelly! I didnt strain the one batch and it looks like goop lol So tomorrow I am picking up my jars YAY!!!
And I prepped something.
I just swapped out our water jugs (2L up to 1 gallon jugs) and 12 gallon container (have used that water for everything like cooking, drinking, dishes, hand laundry in the past 24 hours) and filled new pop bottles for the freezer. I have saved my freezer more than once with this. I take 2 liter and 710ml bottles, fill them 3/4 with water, put the lid on tight and freeze them. And I keep them in the freezer for 3-4 months, then I empty the water... let it melt and use it to water plants, recycle the bottle and then fill new ones. I have smaller frozen bottles in my fridge freezer too. Yes it takes up a little space but, I didn't throw anything out in our freezers during the 2003 blackout (we went about 40 hours without power initially then another 6 hours the next day). With the heat here and more to come this week, I am just trying to think a smidge ahead in case we lose power.
Hi Mamaizzy, funny you should mention filling old pop/water bottles with water and freezing them. I use bottled water for my Kurig. The municipal tap water has too much chlorine in it and the coffee does not taste half as good. I buy the water in 4L containers which have square sides. This helps because you can stack them on their sides later. I refill them all with tap water and then top off all my freezers with them. If the power goes (and it does regularly) full freezers stay cold longer. When the power goes out I take a couple out of the freezers and throw them in the fridges. This really helps to keep the fridges cool. Also If we go to the beech I throw a couple in the cooler to keep beverages cool. Finally I like to shop at Costco but the closest one is a 2 1/2 hour drive one way. We go every couple of months. I throw a couple of coolers in the truck and off we go. You guessed it, I use the frozen 4L bottles to keep the coolers cold. The rest of the empty bottles (and I have a lot) are stacked full of drinking water in my supply room. This is a good way to prep it costs you nothing that you have not already spent and you never have to buy ice!
Been doing the freezer pop bottle thing since I first got a deep freeze in...82. Geez how time fly's when your stoned...I mean having fun. 😉

Know exactly what you mean Ranger. 😆
LOL!!! Someone else who does this!! Awesome! My friends think I am nuts or "extreme" when I say I do this but, it is worth the 15 minutes of effort every few months. And has saved me hundreds of $$$ for sure!
I have fridge bottles too that I switch from fridge to freezer when the heat is like this so my fridge doesnt have to work overtime! Even dollar store ice packs are better than nothing to help your fridge out. Appliances will last longer too.
I have a dozen of those gallon jugs downstairs, the ones we have are good til the end of December (I believe, the expiry is in the book for reference) They stack nicely 🙂
Me too with the frozen water bottles. Such an easy thing to do and silly not to.

Last night we went to a Stapeders live concert. Anyone remember them? It was a blast. They are a band, that if I dare say, have improved with age. Today I was a little deaf when I woke up but well worth it. So why am I posting on "What did you prep this week"? Well sometimes we must remember some of the reasons that we do this. Life is awesome so let's make sure it continues no matter what bumps fate has in store for us all.
exactly!
