I guess there hasn't been much prepping done over the last few weeks... 😉
Have bought and filled up 2 large jugs of water, loaded up on .22 ammo, bought a new hunting knife. Garden is coming along nicely. Raided the Walmart shelves since they had large packages of pasta for $0.50 each!
Bought some more Brantford Charcoal, and a 10kg bag of Calcium Chloride. Making a batch of Activated charcoal for the Huntsville meet. Will also bring the sand/charcoal Water filter that I made

Garden is also coming along, our first one.
Picked up ammo, including some non-corrosive 762 (their last case of a very high pile that didn't last very long 🙁 )
Heading to the range/campground for a few nights pretty soon to work on basic skills.
Praying for rain in this heat wave so I don't have to water the garden with tap water. (tip: putting tap water into a bucket and leaving it open for 24 hours gets rid of most of the chlorine which is nasty to some of the microbes in the soil) The garden is doing better than I expected. 😀
Getting the RE shack closer to being ready. DIY odd ball (one off) construction can try your patience to say the least. Trip to the city to see if I can score some more building materials (the shack will end up being a weak Faraday cage but better than no protection) & batteries in the morning. WOO HOO! what a fun Dominion day! 🙄

BTR,
Excuse my ignorance, but what is an RE shack?
Bolted my ammo reloading press to a piece of 3/4 inch plywood. Along with a couple of c-clamps I now have a "take anywhere" reload press.
Received a pair of bates USMC rat boots that I ordered from la police gear dot com. Regular price $260, got em for $39 clearance. Highl recommend checking them out!

See you all after.
Had a garage sale! Got rid of junk to make room for my important stuff with the added benefit of getting a few $s in the process.
Finished reading One Second After, printed a few homesteading / survival e-books and ordered a few things online. Also picked up a "bucket o' bullets" .22 at Cabelas.
This week I put a wood floor in my generator shack (small building within extension cord reach of the house ).
Numbered my gas cans and labelled them (i.e. Supreme, Regular, 50:1 Mixed, 40:1 Mixed, Supreme Stabil, etc.). I'd be interested in hearing about outdoor gas can storage if anyone has a good way. I currently have cans in various buildings but I'd like to put them in a root cellar type situation (buried fiberglass oil tank, etc.). I would build a rack on the north side of a building but they all face the road in that direction.

!!DO NOT STORE THEM IN YOUR ROOT CELLAR!! That would be a potential bomb, as vapor's build up any spark could cause it to ignite. You need a well ventilated room to store fuel of any type.

Thanks for your concern, Ranger. I don't have a root cellar. I currently have a couple cans in each building, with the bulk in an open shed.
I meant like a root cellar as in a cool, dark, space in the side of a hill. A buried, ventilated culvert or big fiberglass oil tank or something.

This week I refreshed my water storage, stocked up on garbage bags, added a couple cases of canned goods and topped up all the rechargeable batteries that have been sitting. I also updated the family emergency contact list - this includes addresses and phone numbers which now is also sorted by distance from home. I have also added the non-911 numbers for emergency services, as well as their addresses.
Got a few toys arriving by mail this week:
A Voyager 500 solar/crank powered radio
Misc Army surplus stuff
A Gerber machete
An Esbitt cooking kit (combo alcohol/fuel tab burner, cooking pots, bag, etc)
Also, picked up a couple extra gas cans, on sale at Home Hardware. Kept tinkering with the garden, went fun shooting with the .22. And, to top it off, found an old slingshot so I'm trying to get back at shooting it with some accuracy...
helicopilot,
How do you like the Gerber machete? I picked one up myself a few months ago and haven't had the chance yet to try the sawtooth edge for sawing 2" branches - the main reason I got it ( next to zombie close-up defense LOL).
It has been over two months since I've practiced my slingshot skills too. I have two; one in each BOB.
We should get together some time just to compare notes.

Is what you say worth at least a Canadian nickel now?
Cause two cents ain't worth squat anymore !

I'm just waiting for someone to arrange a meet in Edmonton... :). I'm about 2 hrs out of town, so I usually come down a couple of times a month. But it would be real nice to meet like minded people!
So far so good with the Gerber. There's a noticeable lack of trees where I am so I'll have to wait until my next "outing" to try it beyond hacking what I could find in the garage. As for slingshots, it was my intent too to put them in BOBs, but after trying quickly the other day with popcans on boxes, I have a lot of practice to do to become relatively skilled lol.
