I have a pair of those and should have been wearing them yesterday. There was some ice under the snow and I landed on my arse 3 times while clearing snow.
Four rechargeable double length cr123 batteries. Can’t remember exact name but they are double battery use type. That’s a lot of power on very low to medium power.
Started packing up or getting bags ready to pack up things like propane bottles and all the extra stuff one could quickly throw into vehicles.
Also making up a reminder list so we don’t forget something/ bag with my bottle cap collection/ just kidding.
Been tidying a bit and condensing stuff into two groups. One for casual emerg use in the home, hunting, camping and another if I needed to leave with. Where the heck I would go, I haven’t figured out yet and that is also on to do list.

Ah yes, the much forgotten but loved toilet paper and Tupperware. Handy stuff
Two lanterns (wind up) with LCD lights in them, with an emergency radio, and connection to plug in and charge the mobile phone. (Local surplus store had them for $8 each...grabbed the last two!)
Also some additional collapsible water containers to the supplies. And then took stock to ensure everything was ready for a major or minor outbreak of some pandemic. So a variety of PPE, special filters for the furnace, tarps and tape, etc. Better safe then sorry I suppose.

You would be surprised how much more toilet paper one uses when affected by say, a flu-like virus!

Had six brand new AAA Duracell’s. Vintage Winter of 18, but checked in September of 19
along with many other types of batteries and some in and others out of original packaging. All in a ziplock. In truck
The six AAA Duracell’s were in package and so was a nine volt and many CR123. None were touching each other. All badly corroded! First time I had this happen for good quality batteries in short span, so will be checking more often.
Guess I will be checking more often, bad manufacturing date? Doubt two different types would be affected, so maybe overall quality. Rayovacs, and all other AA Duracell’s were fine
Took 3 members of our group out for basic winter survival and an overnight winter camping trip. They learned a few harsh realities.
Took 3 members of our group out for basic winter survival and an overnight winter camping trip. They learned a few harsh realities.
As we are all here to learn, can you in general terms tell us what the issues were? Sleeping bags, hygiene, fear of the evening, footwear....
Having done winter camping, it’s a lot to adapt to.
If you did it in ottawa area, it was a decent / non harsh weekend to try it out.
Let’s learn about the experience of others and tweak our ideas or plans if need be.
