I'm thinking, screw the transformers. If we were to get hit by a major CME (a la "Carrington event"), what's going to happen with Fukishima #4, not to mention all the others. Methinks that susannah755 and her friends will be attending the local house of worship to say a final mass for us northerners. It sort of reminds me of a book I read years ago called "On the Beach", it was about the last of humanity gathered in Australia to wait for the end. In one of my previous posts I mentioned that a CME might be preferable to an Agenda 21 type future. I might have to rethink that opinion.

A CME that can fry a transformer, Will NOT, fry every thing else. Why, because high tension wires that are strung between the tower act like a large antenna. If you know anything about energy frequency then you would know that the longer the wire the more energy it will collect. If there is a ham radio operator out there please confirm this, obviously since I had to learn this stuff in the MILITARY, I don’t know what I am talking about. Look at Quebec 1989, the transformer fried but the cars still ran, radio signals were jammed due to the Geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) and that was a glancing blow. It will depend on the polarity of the CME, the magnitude and the side of the Earth that you are on when it hits. Every thing that I write down here is researched first, I also have experience around vehicles and aircraft. 6-½ years as a Combat Engineer, 13-½ years as an Aero Engine Technician, all of which during that time we were trained on the effects of EMP on electronic equipment, and how to protect our equipment in the event that one might happen. Won't the power lines fry? I watched a documentary on the Carrington event and they showed what looked like fire running down the lines from the train stations. I don't know what kinds of lines they were.

Depend on the intensity of the CME, most new power lines have a safety over load capacity of 5X. Power trip circuits will let lose before they fry but not before the transformers are burnt. Power lines connecting to the Transformers act like a radio anttena, the longer the anttena the more frequncy it can pick up. What you’ve seen is a massive electrical discharge around the cables. Only a continual buildup would melt the wires, much like a power line in your house, where the circuit breaker has been by passed.
