Hi Jon,
I’m not from Manitoba but we do have members of the Canadian Preppers Network out that way. What I would be willing to do is post your request and see if anyone is interested.
I have to say that 99.9% of preppers think the Doomsday Preppers show is a total joke and the people that have appeared on the show were very unfairly taken advantage of. Of course they needed to make the show interesting but I’ve been in contact with several of the people involved – they all regret it. Words were put into their mouths or film was edited to make it appear as if they were hyper focused on certain things. They also forced them to decide which one event they were preparing for and when they answered it was being prepared for everyday emergencies they were told that wasn’t exciting enough they needed to pick something BIGGER – like an asteroid hit – c’mon!!!! It might make for great tv – although that is debatable – but for the most part people no longer want to be involved with the show and everyone has become far less interested in being interviewed because we have no final say in what actually gets printed or recorded. Even if YOU have good intentions your bosses make the final decisions and we know are at times those against your wishes.
I will post your request but this is something we have written about many times and the majority of people have said they would never get involved. That doesn’t bode well for your article sorry!

I can totally understand how a US show might want to exaggerate the truth for the sake of entertainment. All I can tell you is that I work for a news outlet that prides itself on accuracy and information…not entertainment. I have a sincere interest in this topic, unrelated to the show, and I don’t need to make something bigger than it is. I’m perfectly happy to show the reality Manitoban’s are experiencing, and my bosses don’t interfere in the writing of my stories at all. I think CTV did some here and they went over like lead balloons as well. The Bunker guy who is quite intelligent has been made to look insane, his property is under scrutiny by the gooberment!
The Southern Prepper who appeared in the US Doomsday Preppers, was put in an Institution, all his guns/ammo was confiscated
The Nurse Prepper was told keep broadcasting and lose your job and pension..
As the person being interviewed they suck any and all info out of you, promise you the moon, never follow up and put words together to make good copy, exiting reads.

I agree, challenge the media to try and survive in the woods for a week with only 2 cans of beans and no opener or water! That would be great tv! which broadcaster agent will win the challenge, tune in next week to see which one's we let go and who is closer to getting instituted for their new found beliefs! LMAO
