Is anyone doing anything to prepare specifically for the much talked about December 21st Doomsday arrival?
Believe it or not, DW and I are...
We are beginning to stock up on certain consumables such as diapers, fuel, and a few other things, but not because we think that the world will end...more because we are preparing in case of last minute panic buying.
Anyone else doing anything?
What are you doing and why?
Yup, I will plan on touching up on a few things but not much, but mainly the local's on my road are planning a Dec 21st World ending potluck, bonfire, horse back riding, logging, wood hauling party depending on the weather.. we figure we are in it together if the world does end so might as well have a party that day.. It looks like it will be a good time with lots of fun off-grid things planned..
Hey what a great idea Farmgal! A 'doomsday party' !
But seriously, I AM going to get any 'pre-new year' prepping done at least by the week before the 21st because I think you're right Denob: panic buying . BTW, I just found out that our household is going to double by then with my travelling son and his wife coming home for few months...... more mouths to feed but I'm SO relieved that they will be safe and sound here at home rather than half way around the world.
I thought about it, I guess I'm still on the fence. I don't think I will do anything that I don't normally do. If I give too much thought to it, it kind of freaks me out a little and makes me want to buy a bunch of stuff just in case.
Since nothing in history had ever happened like what is being predicted, I assume nothing will happen. Also I don't believe any horrific event that actually did happen was predicted. For that reason I won't prep for the doomsday prediction.
As for people stocking up? My husband was the only one in all of Wal-Mart buying a generator when Sandy was on the approach. My Mother was the only person in view buying water and lantern oil, (and not much of it either) when the young man behind the counter rolled and eyes and gave her a smirk. Since these were our experiences at last minute prepping for a very real, very dangerous event that people were being warned to stock up and prep for (Sandy) I don't think too many people will take this too seriously.
Hey, it never hurts to stock up anyway though.
If your home library contains more volumes about survival-related topics than your local public library, you might be a prepper.
I think the hysteria will be a non-event since it has been debunked (Y2K will prove to have been a larger event), but thanks for the diaper idea.
Here's another article on last minute panic buying in China

That's it! I'm getting more diapers too!
Just in case 20 lb bag of rice, 10 more tins of salmon. and a bulk of plain unscented candles and lamp oil.
"We 'Prep.' to live after a downfall, Not just to survive."
I've already stocked up on refreshments and snacks for the party I intend to have (provided that nothing happens before next Friday). 😀
Huge party here as well 🙂
Assuming that the Mayan Calendar refers to dates in the Northern Hemisphere ??? we will be having a two day Summer Solstice celebration (we hope) as we are one day ahead down here
Capt. Morgan and I have plans whether it comes or not, Cheers .

Happy 12/12/12 everyone! 😀 😀
It is a much more symmetrical date than 21/12/12 or for that matter 12/12/21 or even 12/21/12.
There is a lot to be said for symmetry. 😆
😀 Thanks . Happy 12x3 to you too. Bright and sunny and -10C here! 😉

I'll be toasting you with my favorite friend Ron (Baccardi)!
