18 GB of information on agriculture, livestock, food processing, construction, water, sanitation, health and much more ( via Metafilter) an astounding amount of information - keep scrolling down. I have a particular interest in having hard copies of information that may be less accessible with power failures, internet use changes related to SOPA, and just generally like to be able to get my hands on printed materials.

I agree, hardcopy is the way to go. I have a lot of books and magazine articles that I've collected through the years.
Lately I've started a new way of collecting. I bought a used laptop from a friend and built a faraday cage to store it in. Now I save sites on my good laptop and every so often I download them to disc. I keep the discs stored in the cage with the laptop. Because my retreat is set up with solar and wind power I can recharge my laptop when needed and the discs take up a lot less room. Doing it that way has saved me a lot of money that can be put to use somewhere else and I can store way more information.

Just an idea.

tazweiss is your inverter and solar in the faraday cage as well ? It may sound ignorant but I always wondered if there was a way of hardening alternative power systems ?

My solar panels aren't but I have an extra charge controller and inverter that are. We're planning on burying a sea container this summer and I plan to have a few solar panels inside. The sea container will also be used as a root cellar.

tazweiss your awosome! I wish i could afford a sea container it would solve alot of problems for me. I need to look into buying at least one to use as storage and faraday cage. just have to make sure its a good one no holes! right now I just use steel trash cans from home depo, they work but i have to take the parts off of my atvs and old truck to protect them. It would be nice to be able to just drive them into a shipping container.

Agree 100% on the hardcopy issue, its also good if you have a more formal type of prepping group with training meetings etc, you can pass the copies around, everyone gets to keep one, and when you are done learning/training etc you have a solid copy for reference in any situation. Nice find, thanks!
