So, the media is now starting to say that Justin Bourque, who (so far) has tragically shot & killed 3 police officers 🙁 , has called himself a 'survivalist'. Obviously this guy has many screws loose, but do you think the media will now exploit this, to imply that those who are interested in survivalism and/or visit their local survivalist store, are suspect or more likely to commit violence?
I am sure that stereotype is already out there, to a certain extent, but do you think this will make it worse?
(Personally I think in a real survival situation, those who are more prepared, are more confident & less desperate...but then I am not a journalist)

Sadly, i think they will be even more suspicious of survivalists, I also think that the gun control issue will be brought forward again and that we will also lose more power to the police (I'm sure they are searching properties (sheds, backyards, etc) right now. This will also contribute to the "militarization" of our police officers : bigger guns, more SWATs, more armoured vehicles (they commandeered Brinks vehicles...). Finally, more rights will be infringed because of this; just as much as those who are not allowed to leave - or get back into - their own properties.
This is a very sad situation and I hope the Mounties get their guy soon so that everyone can get back to their normal lives. My thoughts and prayers also go to the families of the casualties, the injured officers and those affected by this.
Ironically, some people stuck inside the lockdown are possibly wondering if they will run out of groceries & other essentials before this guy is caught/killed. Yet another circumstance where having some preps is good.

It was clearly stated in either cbc or ctv, I read both equally on that story so I'm not sure which one mentioned it.
I recall that too, but now I cannot find the story, since the arrest has pre-empted the older stories. Oh well, hopefully that aspect is not blown out of proportion.
