Nibiru is poised to collide with earth tomorrow causing massive loss of life and the end of the world as we know it. It is prophesied that Nibiru, also known as planet X, is on a collision course and the time has come. This fact has been hidden from us by governments around the world who do not want to cause panic but are taking covert steps to protect themselves.

READ ON!

Now proponents of this end of the word theory must be biting their nails right now because with less than a day to go we can't see it. Now either that means it does not exist or there is a huge NASA conspiracy to hide the facts. Wait. The conspiracy would have to include all the amateur astronomers worldwide (me include). I am definitely not part of a conspiracy (well not that one at least). So now we apply Occam's Razor and come to the conclusion that Nibiru is just a figment of some imaginations. What happens when December 22nd rolls around? Will it end there? Of course not because you can't let a good conspiracy theory or prophecy to go to waste. On Dec 22nd or shortly thereafter I am sure there will be all kinds of statements flying around the Internet and yes some of them will be on beloved YouTube. They will take the form of "Nibiru is real, the date was wrong but it's coming at a later date". So the so called "theory" is perpetuated.

This is just one example of how misinformation can be used to play on our fears. Prophecies and conspiracy theories are intended frighten us. Now they can only achieve their intent if they are viewed, even by some, as somewhat credible. Over the last few years both prophecies and conspiracy theories have been on the rise. There are several contributing factors to this that we could all point to. One of the major factors is the deep distrust of government especially in the US which now unfortunately beginning to percolate to other counties around the world. It is one thing to dislike your government, it is entirely another to have a deep distrust of it. This just breeds paranoia. Another reason is the meteoric rise of social media, especially YouTube which serves as a platform for this propaganda. Anyone with a camera, computer and an internet connection can potentially influence people around the world.

Many preppers are very practical in approach and show disdain for conspiracy theories in general. Also many have contempt for a lot that is found on YouTube as it is often not the most informed or accurate of sources. Many new preppers come to the forum for help, guidance and to get some questions answered. The last thing we want to do is lead them astray with misinformation. For those members of the forum who have been prepping for a while and believe that we have a moral obligation to help other preppers, especially those just starting out, let's try to keep them on the right track. Continue to promote a 72 hour emergency kit, have them prepare for possible loss of employment, a serious illness in the family that impacts them, or a severe weather event that confines everyone to their home for a few days. From their they can take their own preeping plans to what level they like. Let's keep it real and benefit from each other's thoughts and knowledge. Don't be afraid to speak up when nonsense is spouted and feel free to say with conviction " Nibiru? Now that is total BS!"

Please expand on a few of your points.

Which countries do you feel that distrust of government is percolating to?
Is it percolating to Canada? Should we have any reason to distrust our various levels of government in this country? Do you advocate blindly following whatever they tell us to do?

Do you think the American government current and past, has done anything to earn this deep distrust?
