Not that far away. Time to start watching for events in your area. Some require prebooking and may fill up fast.

I'll be watching! Scrounger, you posted on the Emergency Preparedness Expo in Kitchener last year..I think it was may 11 or 13 if I recall.
Do you know if there is another one this year? I think last year's expo was great!

Crown,
I have not seen anything online yet about it for this year. I'm going to watch and see if anything is posted closer to the date. I will keep the forum updated. I was pleasantly surprised at how good last years event was. I plan on spending more time talking to the radio guys if the event happens this year.
I am brand new to this forum but have been thinking about doing this for years. My son wants to learn survival skills this summer so I am thinking collecting firewood, crossbow, learning to shoot and red cross skills and even some fighting skills. I just started watching the walking dead and thought a lot more about a panadamic and how one would survive. I know that is would likely be airborne and having meds would be a good start, but where to get all of this stuff. I also read the post about friends that are not prepared and what to do about that as I think one would be overrun with people if they knew you were prepared and such. How good is the prep expo in kitchener? Any tips would be great.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Last years expo was well done. It offered a lot of tips on food, communication, and preparations of your home/community. I hope they do another this year. It was really down to earth stuff and practical things that all of us could do from beginner to seasoned veteran. Sounds like Scrounger has his ear to the ground, so I'm waiting patiently too.
There was a prepper expo north of Toronto last summer (I forget the location..oops. 🙂 ) that was a big success also. Surf the forum, you'll find lots of great info. and lots on upcoming events. And if your son is interested in survival skills...I'd recommend the Scouts. The experience in camping/survival in the wilderness both summer/winter, first aid, etc. is invaluable and stuff you take right into adulthood! 🙂

I'm found an e-mail addy for one of the organizers of last years event. The bad news is it is a biannual event,. They will start planning for the 2015 event this Sept. The great news is they want to give it more of a prepper theme. Get groups like the scouts involved, things like that. I do think they did a great job getting a prepper flavour to it last year. I have invited the organizer to visit/join our forum. They are open to suggestions and are interested in people who would like to volunteer. Wait and see at this point.
