Ok JAB does that mean that you agree with my previous post? Either way the current "school of thought" seems to be emanating from our current Lib. government. By any measure it is a blatant plan to stop treating elderly patients leaving them to fend for themselves. It would save tremendous health care costs and help reduce the staggering provincial deficits. To me that is unconscionable.
ICRCC... I agree with your posts to a point. What I was trying to get at was the concept of diminishing returns. You reach a point where there is no benefit to treating something where the effect of not treating it will only surface 30 years down the road. If the person is at an age.. say 65 - 70 then it will ultimately be no benefit and in fact a negative return based on side effects that reduce quality of life. In many cases the quality of life will be improved by stopping many of the meds currently dispensed. As well many of the health issues are caused by lifestyle. A healthier diet, exercise and weight managment will greatly reduce dependance on pharmaceuticals. Many medications are prescribed to deal with side effects of other medications.. the merry go round.
In SHTF scenerio, I dont think being over weight would be a problem for long. As for exercise, working to survive 12 hrs a day would prove to be exercise enough, I think. Unless your the Dick tator type, that would assign work while you sit on your ass or screwing somebody elses.
"We 'Prep.' to live after a downfall, Not just to survive."
Another school of thought, the elderly can take care of the infants and the infirmed, and/or much of the light industrial work, (not talking sweat house work) like sewing, cooking, teaching of the young. Even some of the infirmed would rather do something than nothing. My Grandmother, made bread, cakes, and jam until almost the day she died. They don't do it because they have to, but to feel that they are still useful.

I believe that given the type, quality and mindset of people here the "Dick" tator would end up being peeled and made into fresh cut fries... or maybe scallopped.. depending on your preference... 😆
How about all the meds that seniors are being pumped full of these days...high blood pressure and all those other pills the doctors are pushing? Will we be able to regulate the health issues of our elders with diet and herbals?
I'm in the situation of having to care for an older person (my mother) who relies on toxic biomedicine to live somewhat pain free on a day to day basis. She needs the meds now because of the modern medical approach of "got something wrong with you, here take a pill. Oh got a reaction to the pill, here take this one too". Manipulating diet and using herbals/alternative treatments is going to be the way that I try and manage her health issues if everything goes to sh*t and her "prescribed poisons" become unavailable. How do I think that is going to go......I have no idea, but i guess time will tell. We may all end up having health issues someday.....how will we cope? Will we be looking over our shoulder to ensure someone doesn't try and sneak up behind us and "do the deed" because they no longer consider us useful? I'll fight back like I always have, but will it be enough?
Russell Coight....outback legend
I hope that approach will work well for you, susannah755. My father has MS and my mother just finished chemotherapy and beat cancer but also has diabetes and a heart condition. The medication my dad has been on has kept his MS at bay for 12 years and my mother is alive because of chemotherapy. I'm pretty happy about modern medicine.
I'm pretty sure their quality of life, at the minimum, would go straight downhill if they can't get more medication. It's a horrible thing to think of. I need to have a chat with them.
My situation is kind of different, I'm a single dad and my son is my priority. If he was with his mother and everything went bad I would do everything I could to get to him. I would, and I would then secure the two of us. His mother is useless and can fend for herself I don't think she would last ten min!!! My parents and brother live 18 hours away so I see no point in trying to get to them it would be a suicide mission. Sad but true. We would thrive in most situations, I would have a lot of "friends" come looking for protection/food/shelter, ect. I would have a hard time turning people away but it would happen. I have already though it threw, unless someone has something to offer us then I'm not taking in freeloaders!! Friends or not.
Good oral hygiene is important for maintaining one's overall health. According to the Caucus Educational Corporation, poor oral health has been linked to heart and lung disease, diabetes, stroke, extremely high-birth weight, and premature births. Often, diseases give their first warning signs in the form of oral problems. The U.S. Surgeon General also agrees that oral health is a strong indicator of overall health and well-being (CDC, 2006).
There are four basic steps to maintain good oral health
Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste.
Floss every day. everyday
Limit the number of times you snack.
