Was looking at buying a Solo Stove just now and I realized something obvious: Some boob is going to set fire to his house while trying to heat catfood over an improvised fire 🙄

Under normal circumstances the fire department would take care of that. Post SHTF however, an unchecked fire could consume the neighborhood, including your own meticulously-built survival fortress. Kind of ironic. So with that in mind, what do you think is sufficient for keeping flames from jumping to your house? A big fire extinguisher? Maybe a ladder at the ready so you can reach flaming debris that falls on your roof?

Very good point. Add all the people heating with a wood stove (when was the last time the chimney was cleaned?), candles, kerosene lamps and heaters...

I have a 20# a 10# and a couple 5# ABC extinguishers strategically located around the house and the vehicles. Even for day to day emergencies (not necessarily cataclysmic events), my small town relies on a volunteer fire dept. God bless their hearts, but I can't rely on them to save my house if I can help it; so I'd rather be in a position to help myself if at all possible.

I think this might do the trick when it comes to forest fires or neighbours house fires spreading: http://www.firebreaksystems.com/

This will work nicely in your home/bug out location: http://www.arasafety.com/

For the record I have absolutely nothing to do with either company, I just happen to know of their products.
