Beth, I think this is what Tony Gonzalez is talking about when mentioning "pole shift".

What I find scary about that article is that while it suggests there is concrete evidence for global shift, they also suggest that global warming is a 'theory' that was constructed to destroy America (I'm reading between the patriotic lines there, my own bias).

I would suggest that you read everything with the author's perceptions and bias' in mind. The challenge is that you do not always know what the author's true motivation is. There are as many websites citing the flaws in the 2012 theories as there are those purporting it.

http://www.2012hoax.org/mayan-calendar
- tldr: maya probably did not create this system of calendars and this system did not adjust for the leap year.

http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/natureofthings/2010/northgoessouth/
- tldr: pole shift has happened before, will probably happen again. no way to know when. no way to know the duration or impact on our technology for certain.

Saying that, I still prep because Sh*&^t could still hit the fan. I plan for broader concepts that could have similar outcomes as these 2 events, so the means may be different, but the ends are not. Catastrophic climate change, failure of the electrical grid, virus, economic collapse, American civil war between the classes, etc. We all have our own personal reasons and fears to prep.

Please read both sides of any argument when making your plans. We can only prioritize so many possible scenarios within our limited resources so it is in your best interest to assess the Risks objectively with whatever Risk Matrix you deem fit for your own situation and location.

This is longer than I planned and is now off-topic from the thread but I wasted the time writing it, so dammit, someone should have to read it lol.

Yes you are right, there will be a pole shift, but when? No one can say for sure when it will happen, for it doesn’t happen on the very same year as the last one. In fact you have a 10-20 thousand year leeway. Sure they say that were over due for one, but will it happen this year, next year, or a hundred years from now. Science is a guessing game, and almost every thing that they thought a while ago have been proven inaccurate to some degree. 21 Dec 2012, I’ll be prepped for it, but only as much as I am now, unless I win a major lottery.

Most of us have talked about or have BoB’s....some have cars, trucks, pedal bikes, trail bikes all ready to use to leave a congested area and get out to some country or perhaps even a wilderness location but I am curious to hear who in ther forties, sixties... has donned the packs and done a day long hike, and then after sleeping outside has repeated for two or three more days?

I know I am screwed with my health to go far and fast, it I needed to do it, it would be very tough to do. So for those who are older but can be considered healthy, how far can you get in a day. Actually walked in the past year or so with a full BOB

I did a little walk with full pack two years ago during a very high heat day, gravel road, pretty flat and after about four thousand feet, I needed a good rest of thirty minutes before returning home( planned trip) I subsequently, altered contents and rejigged some external packs and webbing. It was a good little test at the time and told me, I will be needing to stop often and won’t be doing any twenty miles marches in a day. Will be able to do it, but slowly.

There’s a number of military types here and I am truly curious what you can do today at give or take, sixty years of age.? Same for average civilian office worker. I know my wife will also not be able to carry as much if hardly anything due to an ailment on her part. So slow going for us, if we needed to leave on foot. Now we are out in the country so off we would go in 4wd or atv, but for those living in the city.. how far would you make it ? Like to see how I compare and what your work around would be.

If ever I am in town and need to walk home, it will be an adventure that would take me many days if I couldn’t bum a ride once I broke out of the main city core.

I think if I lived in the city or burbs, a motocross would be a must have. Fast, narrow and could jump curbs, ditches, side walks, low fuel consumption.

I have donned my BOB for a run. And found even at a greatly reduced size/weight running is not an option. Discovered about 1km into "the run."

I have walked once about 20km with the BOB on to prove I can move at some distance. However, it was on a gravel trail more/less groomed and no great slopes or gradients. Could I go farther? Yes. Could I go farther continually every day? Perhaps...but not without knowing impending doom was lurking behind me. Packs hurt, leave welts and marks, muscle aches and frankly the whole concept of walking with a pack sucks. Can it be done? yup. Optimal? Nope. I opt for a mountain bike and small trailer if this method is needed.

I'd give myself....3 days...maybe 4 max. Then I'd simply throw myself to the Zombies to end the misery.

Crown, I feel your pain. Didn’t even attempt more than a mile and a half. I was pooped, lungs sucking for air. Having severe asthma isn’t really conducive to long walks with packs in 98 degree weather and high humidity.
Pack was fine for bite marks, feet were hot but so far so good. Not that that puddly walk was any test, but still happy with man made gear, just not the body from hell!

If needed, I would just have to take LOTS of breaks. I hope and pray if ever need3d, I can walk out of downtown ottawa core and high a ride with nice person. Either that or a few days hike to hopefully get to safety. ( hopefully)
Ya, I get real apprehensive when traveling in cities, wouldn’t want to try walking out. Awesome you did that 20k a sincere congratulations 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Who else has done what in their fifties...?

I'm 35 and unfit. This past Saturday ran for 5 minutes, and I'm still sore today. Not that bad, but I feel it when I'm stretching.
When it comes to walking I can go a fair distance, with no ruck on. I take the kids on walks in the woods near our house once a week, from spring to the end of fall. I don't do it in the winter, I discovered they don't want to be outside for a couple of hours in the cold.
I have my fit-bit on while we walk, and they average 10kms. They go longer, but rarely less. 3/4 of the time I'll have one in my ergo backpack, plus my side bag with water, food, dry socks and the like. They each weigh 35lbs, so not very much, but enough to add some weight. Not 90lbs though. Every so often I'll have one on my back on one on my front, and the difference in the distance I can travel comfortably is amazing. I go to the end because I have no other choice but I know I couldn't do it day after day, not with 70lbs.
I've started working out to fix this but I'll have to wait until this spring to see on my improvements.

On a different note, my father is 62 and still running marathons. Military for 44 years, tough bastard he is.

Running is an exceptional way to increase one's overall health, stamina, energy, etc. Wabsey, if you can find time to squeeze in 3 or 4 10 minute runs a week. Nothing more...you'll see a noticeable difference almost immediately. After a month turn it into 15minutes. You really dont have to do anything crazy to reap the rewards from it and can keep it as simple as that. 🙂

62 and running marathons.... Thats amazing!

Train blockade
Leaving politics completely out of this (sort of), We see how a few idly protests paralyze a government and amongst many other concerns, threaten supply chains.

Let’s for a second imagine a government says to heck with this, send in the authorities and maybe the army, cool, fine...that should get things going right.

What happens if a few loons say let the trains run but we will sabotage a line, take some pot shots at locamaotive, a station...?

What would happen would be train shut down again, and until the culprits are all nailed, the lines would likely remain shut down out of health and safety concerns. What then for those using propane, oil .......

Due to the vast unmonitored, remote, semi isolated regions in North America, we are very vulnerable to even a few wing nuts taking things into their own hands and really causing innocent people great pain. So let the train blockades and likely supply chain issues from China, serve as a very convenient reminder of what may befall us. Some things simply can’t travel by other means or be made here locally in a quick fashion.

Drug shortage: pharmacy told me two weeks ago that Olmstec ( for high blood pressure) is in short supply and they limited me to one month supply. Today, still no news on when it will be available. They claim no idea why the shortage. Haven’t found anything yet online as to why or current status. Docs been asked for replacement

China related or something else, no idea

Ramping up supplies of other meds, problem is watching expiry dates so going to try and get more in and then another push in a month from now in hope I get different expiry batch

Hopefully we learn and bring back all production to western countries

I believe the name brand and generic are both manufactured in Canada.

thanks Scrounger. I had seen the first one before and it shows a resolved date of 2019

the second one i am aware of and they had 20mg pills so we only needed to take two, to resolve. problem is, we cant even get the smaller ones now.

truly appreciate your efforts. it all helps, so THANKS!

will keep people posted because i am sure i am not the only one needing this and even if i am on this board, family members may be affected.

probably a good idea to reach out to loved ones and advise them to make sure they have extra meds. Even the stuff made in India, has components come from China and once India gets hit, that should spread like wildfire!

Spoke with doc and getting an alternate for ongoing shortage and will try and stock up on that one. Still have backup supply of previous! Three is two, two is one and one is none. Truer then never!

Here’s something for everyone to be concerned about. Be it meds or parts like peppercorn mentions in train topic.

Counterfeits!

In security meetings, have seen the images of the counterfeit meds, how they are made etc. now, it’s not just meds but batteries, dog food, transformers, toaster, toothpaste, bandaids.........................

Impact can be ones health, a fire, injury from a part that breaks...

So, with Chinese production being hurt and likely other nations, the supply of counterfeit items may increase. And of course those who are having a hard time getting supplies and keeping customers, may just be tempted to partake to keep themselves afloat.

Fake meds often look far better then real stuff. They buy newest machines and have no problem replacing them to keep up lucrative sales. Stuff is even made in legit factories when factory is shut down at night or on weekends, ... so wouldn’t be surprised if a factory in need, could be convinced to allow it to be taken over by gangs with ready supply of disposable labor!

Read the labels... they often still make an error in spelling

Got an alternative heart med that gives me three months supply but even the new alternative is apparently having supply issues. Now ide what the frogging truth is to the short supply but it is troubling. But I now have a years supply of this med so good for now.

Best check how you or family members are with their heart med needs!
