How long before tsunami after earthquake happens? An earthquake struck in Japan and a tsunami is expected. What is the length of time between the earthquake and the tsunami?

Well there is no definative answer to that. There are lots of earthquakes but very few of them cause tsunamis. It is dependent on the location, depth and strenght of the earthquake also the depth of the ocean, undersea topgraphy and the nature of the sea bed.
