Is it possible for a tsunami caused by an earthquake in Japan to reach the west coast of North America? Apparently they issued a tsunami warning in British Columbia, but isn't Japan too far?

When in deep water this kind of displacement wave doesn't bleed much energy. It can still be quite powerful thousands of miles away.
