Only one thing that I know of that's worth handing over your life for, and that is my family...other than that, what is irreplaceable? Maybe I am thinking of this question to simplistically, but that's what I conclude.

Let them take whatever they want, keeping it from you though afterwards will prove problematic though. Follow at a distance, strike at Dawn, those are the tactics that I was taught. Get them celebrating, or just afterwards.
I would only protect for life, family and pets, hopefully your hidden your weapons, or at least some of them. Well then use what you have left in the wee hours. Most looters are dumb assd thugs, no tactics and no training, use your head against them,

I do trust in the Lord and having said that it is said 'only a fool does not prepare.' We would use our wits and keep calm though not unprepared. We, meaning myself and husband have been new at prepping though we have not wasted time and are looking at various situations that may arise. Also thinking of getting our third Sheppard soon as knowing how to teach hand signals and body language with our past Sheppards would prove more than a little helpful as a preventative measure and also an offensive measure.

I'm confused Wild e. Doesn't it make more sense to fight to keep what you have now, rather then fighting to get it back later after you gave it up? One confrontation instead of two?

my answer was dependent on the post, the person was alone or just with family. In that case I go with the Dawn tactics, in the case of we are in a group of people who can defend themselves, the best option in an ambush is to attack into the ambush!
The best defence is a good offence, which works if you are aware in a tactical minded group, then you should be paying roving bands of looters and malcontent's first. Depending on what you see them do, you either offer a different path for them in this life or give that different path to another life.

It is always harder to keep a spot from Marauders, but easy to take it back in most situations if you strike hard and fast.
Every option is dependent on who is with you at the time.
Alone
Family, small family
Tactical group with family and just a tactical group.
Are you in the house building at the time of attack, are you in the field, are you walking on a trail, is your place defensible, do you have any fighting skills of any sort, do the women, do the men, the kids.

Let me quote a few lines from an old Kenny Rogers song...

"You got to know when to hold 'em,
Know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away,
Know when to run"

There is no one size fits all advice or action. In the end you have to decide what action will be best for you in any given situation. Yes, you can stand and fight... but sometimes discretion is the better part of valor and living to fight another day in circumstances more to your advantage is the wiser choice. Cliche I know. But truer words were never spoken.
