I was wondering what the very best throwing knives are. I guess this is a two-fold question. Since I am sure that starting out and learning to throw means I should get less expensive knives and graduate to better ones later on when my skill improves, what are the best ones to start with as a beginner and which are the best overall?
Cold Steel are cheap and sturdy. If you are learning to throw knives...just do it for fun and try not to think of it as weapons training. Ive thrown since my teen years and can pierce quarter inch plywood which is the strength you need to get through clothes and tissue. My advice after all these years....don't throw knives. First reason, you are throwing away your weapon. Second reason, You are giving that person a weapon...even if he pulls it out of himself. It takes a long time for a person to bleed out. A single puncture isn't going to do the job. Third reason. Your distance perception will change under stress and throwing means you have to be precise.
So lets sum up. Keep the knife in your hand where it belongs. If you want something to give you distance...A double fist sized rock, thrown baseball style into someones head will kill them as dead an a nine mil. It will break bones and cause debilitating muscle trauma ...and the ammo is dirt cheap. "....Everybody must get stoned"
I have a Tactical Harness and I have a Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is more Useful.
Thanks for the advice, C5. I understand what you are saying about not relying on knives as a weapon. I would use them as a last ditch effort. It certainly wouldn't be my first line of defense, but having multiple options is also a good thing. It would also just be fun to become skilled at throwing 🙂
No, No, No! Knives are fantastic weapons. Even small ones. I just hate giving combat advice. Its not what I am about. Put a knife where it belongs and it does more damage than a hand gun. I'm just not willing to teach anyone where to put it that I haven't known for years. Just not the knick produced buy throwing.

LOL, C5, I understand. I want to have knowledge of various sorts of non-gun weapons, although I might go there in the future. But I feel that even if you can shoot a gun and have guns, knowledge of other forms of weaponry and self-defense are a must. Variety, ya know? Crossbow, slingshot, knives are all on my list. Also, I am now taking karate and I will eventually learn to use the bo staff, which means I'll be knowledgeable in staff fighting, making any long, sturdy stick into a powerful weapon.
So, I picked up a couple of sets of throwing knives at our local surplus store. Whether or not they are of the highest quality, they will be good to learn with and have fun with. My question now is where can I actually use them? I rent my home and my yard is visible from the sidewalk. Not sure what that leaves me.
If you are perusing this...You might be interested in this. It reminds me of my first month at 16. I went different... and its powerful but has only one distance so it has its short comings. This might solve that. Its all repetition. Know the flow. Be warned...You will get Tennis Elbow. Joint problems. Remember to be gentile on your joints.

Im unsure how I should put the points when I upgrade my throwing knives.. I generally only use them playing death match to stun with and have it set with two points in cool down.. Just curious if this is the best way to spend them, or I I should drop a point in duration.
Love the whole idea behind throwing knives. In Canada its a great idea, considering how few fire arms we have and the small caliber. But again remember any concealed weapons can get you in trouble. Under 3 inches is allowed for work purposes. Safer to have a Louie slugger junior. You can do alot of damage.
There is no national sub-3" work law. You workplace may or may not allow you to carry "weapons" and knives.
There is no national blade length limit, but your city may have local by-laws. There are laws against certain knives based on how they open.
Knives and self-defence are no secret, there are many styles out there in books, DVDs, and Youtube that can turn you from untrained to somewhat trained. However, you can best use these resources after you have some time under an in person teacher and understand the common points of self-defence.
A 10 year old kid with a kitchen knife and no training is still a killer if you are not aware of what is going on around you.
Why did I join Canadian Preppers Network?
Well I was going to join the UK Network but those bloody Brits don't know how to speak proper English! 😉
I used to throw knives alot as a teen too(too many martial arts movies). 😆 I found the Black Mamba was the knife I threw best and couldn't believe it when I found they still make them. http://www.knifewarehouse.co.uk/3+x+Black+Mamba+Throwing+Knives+%26+Sheath+PUlETXpBRE14b0RkalZIWnZKSGM
I don't know if they are the same as what I used but it seems quite close. I think mine were heavier than than 2.8 and more like 4 oz as I went and compared to some kitchen knives to work that out. The trick is the blade has to be heavier than the hilt and you can see these easily are. I haven't held a Black Mamba in over 20 years and now will likely order a set of these for old times sake. 😆
I used to throw 1 knife against others throwing 3 darts (cheap crappy darts btw) at family's dart board. I could usually beat most at this game including myself using those crappy darts the family had. I should maybe mention the family also reminded me often that I ruined the dart board and the wall behind(while learning)... 😕 😎
I'm back and I found it! http://www.linder.de/en/artikel/990106/Linder_Black_Mamba
That is what me knife looked like and I was right, it is heavier... and costs more too 😥
