I've been reading online about .22 ammo shortage in the US for a while, but didn't it would be 'that bad'. So I'm in Colorado right now and the shelves are simply empty! Most sores have a sign stating there is a shortage and that when they get shipment, they limit purchase to a max of 100 rounds (2 small boxes) per client. I spoke to some colleagues who told me this has been around for a while and that .22 rifles and pistols and pretty much given away as ammo can't be bought to feed them.
I have a fair stock at home, but will be curious to look at the stores when I get home. What is it like at your regular shopping joint?
I don't usually buy off the shelf ammo. I see online retailers are short of US made .22 like Federal and CCI.
For .22 I'll pay the $50 a brick for Lapua club, RWS Target Rifle or Eley practice because it's much more accurate.
Doesn't seem to be a shortage or price premium on those.

As of this missive I have a ready supply of .22lr handy. All got readily here in Alberta. The CCI Velocitor 40gr HP high velocity was got at Calgary Shooting Centre and a "Bucket 'o' bullets" of Remington 36gr HP high velocity (1400rd) bucket at Red Deer Shooting Centre (no affiliation).

Haven't been any in the big box stores around here for about half a year and there weren't a lot last year
I have a Tactical Harness and I have a Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is more Useful.
No shortage around these parts. Sure, Canadian tire may only have a few hundred of each variety, but Cabelas in Edmonton, and various gunshops seem to have bricks of whatever I might want. Canadaammmo.com seems to be a little light on supply, but other online suppliers seem to have plenty.

Mostly scraps in the bigger stores. Got a bunch of CCI Mini-Mag at Calgary Shooting Center a while ago, that was what they had. And by some fluke the crap Walmart near me got Federal bulk packs in. Took me half an hour to find someone with a freakin key to that case but I got one, and for (get this) $28. Eventually someone else must have noticed because they're all gone again.
We still have a lot of in-store shortages and price hikes, although if you watch online you can get lucky.
I obviously need to go to Colorado. There is always room for a new family member. Our firearm prices on the East Coast have never hit a "give away" level, although they did at least drop back to "pre-run" "pre-gouge" levels right before the state's latest restrictions went through.
The two main places I get 22lr ammo are Canadian Tire and WalMart. Most of the time the shelves are pretty empty and you will be doing well to get a box or two of the bulk stuff. Every time I go I try to pic up one box to add to the 5000rounds I already have.
The local walmart and canadian tire are usually always empty of any ammo, except in season. So these weren't good references for me. I'll see next time I go down to Edmonton if I get any luck at Cabelas or Wholesale.
I know last fall all the Canadian Tire and Walmart were cleaned out by American hunters. The shelves were replenished by late October but a store clerk told me that they bought everything in .22, .308, .30-06, and .223. My brother was flying Alaska and said they were totally out of everything up there.
But this isn't a conspiracy.... 😉 😉 nudge, nudge 🙄

Some of that is the norm - hunters have harder and harder times traveling with or shipping ahead ammo across borders with new regulations. When you add in nonavailability due to fear-driven grabs...
It was one of the complaints in waterfowl and big game states down here also: locals couldn't get ammo because out-of-state hunters (and their guides) were grabbing it. Here there were also complaints because without problems carting it home, people were willing to drive 4+ hours to buy it by the case when it was in stock. At one of the MARYLAND guns shows (maryland, with crazy taxes) somebody had actually driven from Michigan to buy flat case maximums of the common hunting and self-defense calibers. Like, dude had a dolly he was winching from table to table.
Talk about not-happy campers in his wake.
Sometimes wonder which is the better investment. Silver, gold, or bullets.
All 3??? 😉

(dang, I'm getting good at making quotes up... 😎 )
On my recent travels Medicine Hat Canadian Tire and Walmart were out, Saskatoon Cabelas and Wholesale Sports had some .22 but stock levels are lower than normal. Cabelas had some CCI and Winchester 1000 rd bulk packs. Wholesale had Winchester and Remington. Swift Current Canadian Tire has the best supply of bulk packs I have seen in a while. Federal and Winchester bulk packs and Remington Yellow Jackets in the 50 rd boxes. First time I have visited the Canadian Tire in Swift Current. I was impressed by their selection of firearms and ammunition.
