Sometimes wonder which is the better investment. Silver, gold, or bullets.

Bullets are more funner! gold and silver just sit there and do nothing ,plus if you have bad aim you cant hunt with gold .

Thank you

Bass Pro that just opened in Niagara has plenty. And they keep it that way by putting a limit. 2 small boxes (The 50 round ones) or one bulk (anything over 50 r)per PAL per day. My father and I managed to get an extra 10 000 just by going in every day and getting 1 bucket 'o' bullets each. A bit annoying, but it seems to have kept them in good stock. A few times we went there and they had an employee assigned to making sure everyone only got one by writing down PALs and guarding the pile (They had a couple hundred!). Dad' even coming around to prepping a little! It's a Christmas miracle!

Glad to hear things are working out Rachel. In south east USA, the shelves are still mostly barren on 22 ammo and the remainder popular ammo is available, but seems quite expensive, I'd say at par to Canadian prices if not higher. Some stores manage their shipments like Walmart who put all their 22 on the shelf Saturday at 9:00 am and limit the purchases but there are typically line ups so they are sold out by 9:10 am. Other stores make a pile of little boxes (50), write down 5.99 each on a piece of paper, open the doors and let the first guy in buy them all...

Lots of .22 in SW Ontario so far as I can see. Local gun stores, Wal Mart and Canadian Tire stocked. If there is a shortage or potential shortage no sign of it or discussions locally.

One of the Canadian Tires in Kitchener has recently started to sell firearms....rarely see that in a Canadian Tire unless your up north. Last time I saw a Canadian Tire selling rifles/shotguns was Hearst. lol

Canadian Tire in our area is selling rifles and seems to have a large amount of 22 amo. There didn't seem to be any shortages of any type of amo..... the display case was well stocked.

I think the Ammo companies are laughing all the way to the bank here. They keep producing ammo non-stop, but the perceived shortage leads to people hoarding, so that even if someone isn't shooting much, they may still end up buying a couple of boxes if he/she sees some is available and then the shelves are barren again. Heck, I contributed to the situation too as before moving south, I bought a 5,000 round case from Canada Ammo in addition to the many boxes I already had. In 6 months, I have shot... zero 22 rounds. Well, something useful to have if the Zombies ever come I suppose.

On the plus side, Ruger 10/22s are available everywhere here at decent prices, unlike the last time I checked in Canada!

I read an article in 22cal magazine about this so called shortage. Federal , CCI, Remington have doubled capacity, the shortage is due to consumer buy out in bulk at many US locations. Seems us Canucks have been storing up for years so no big deal here. Calgary has plenty of 22cal ammo in every store I have been too.

The .22LR shortage seems dependent on where you are and what brand you prefer.

My Local Gun Shop has a decent supply of American Eagle .22LR 500 packs and Remington Hornet .22LR 500 packs and they tell me that they haven't been able to get any Federal .22LR 525 Value Packs for over a year now.
Local Wal-Mart usually has a decent supply of Remington .22LR 222 Bulk packs and 555 Bulk packs but they sell out pretty quick.
Local Crappy Tire has Federal .22LR 525 Value Packs on occasion.

I haven't seen any CCI locally at all.

So if your loyal to or simply have a preference for a specific brand, then there may well be a shortage, but if your willing to shoot anything that goes bang then you can usually find some .22LR as long as your not too picky.

But one thing is for sure, the price has definitely jumped and unless the market levels off I imagine the price will continue to climb.

Still pretty much zero around Vancouver island. Unless you want to get .22 birdshot at the local Wally World. Saw a few bricks at cabela's in nanaimo. Gone in a day.

I've noticed recently the Bass Pro that opened here in Niagara that they have the so-called shortage, yet all the local gun shops and my range have it in abundance. Bass Pro brought in skids of the Remington Bucket O' Bullets when they first opened and limited them to one per day per person, so everyone (including my dad) went back every day to get another one, plus whatever else looked shiny. They always seem to have CCI and some Winchester, but we've noticed in our 10/22's that anything hollow point jams up like crazy, as well as anything with very soft lead, so there's only a few brands we'll get now. They've got us all trained now, since the employees told everyone the days the supply truck shows up, so they show up as soon as they open to grab as much as they can.

I'm really confirming my theory about manipulation (surprise!). People were hoarding the .22s in the USA the moment there was a rumour that shortage was going, which of course, led to a shortage. Now that it starts to be more available again, people are trying to offload their stashes on Facebook, Craiglist and other websites.

A few months ago, there were rumours that the ATF was going to make the "green tip" 556 ammo illegal as it has some armour piercing capabilities. Guess what? People were buying them by the pallets leading in... Shortages.... And price inflation. The ATF's threat never materialized and it's not even on the radar anymore, must there are now 2 kind of AR people: those who would like some green tip ammo and those who have 10s of 1,000s of rounds stashed.

Still dismal here in Nanaimo.

Any ammo shows up two or three bricks at a time. Then poof, gone the next day.

Both Canadian Tire outlets on our area are quite well stocked with .22 Ammo. A couple of dozen boxes at each location. Was scoping out .410 Ammo, when I saw all the .22.
