Thought I would start a post about which knives people have bought and have turned out to be complete shite.

Cold steel Kukri- I ordered this off evilbay and it is complete garbage. It was around $60 delivered to Aus... I should have figured it out by the price. I have heard there is a more expensive version that is supposedly good, but I have been unable to find.

SOG Machete- Got this at a local gunstore for around $80 dollars. Took it camping with me over the easter weekend and 4 chops in the edge started bending and chipping. Avoid.

Here's a couple I can vouch for.

Mora Clipper- around $30 delivered from ebay and its a little sexy beast, very sharp and very easy to sharpen. Also light and sturdy.

Fallkniven A1- This one is more expensive but out perfomed any knife i have owned so far and is a very solid survival knife. Battoning is a breeze with this baby. $300 from ebay but I will keep this until someone kills me after shtf and gets all my cool loot, or I die an old man and my nephew will get it. Definately worth the money.

Hope this helps.

Hello susannah! I live in the south east suburbs of vic and it's killing me. Can't wait for SHTF so I can get away from all these mindless sheeple and zombies. Would leave now but I'm kinda on a good wicket workwise here so.... I'll just wait it out and keep preparing then bug out to somewhere like Bright when it all goes down:)

This is more of a question than a recommendation...sort of 🙂

I have two ka Bar knives. A k bar Tanto, and K Bar with serated edge. (both all black, I forget the NSN numbers...but figured if it was good enough to have one meh...good enough for me! lol) I also got them because ka bar seems to be a popular brand and I heard a lot of talk within Krav maga circles.

Are these good knives? Or have I just fallen for hype?

Ka-Bar makes good knives, as long as you use them within their limits, as is true for any knife. The limits of some knives only extend to removing them from the sheath. Ka-Bar isn't one of those. As long as you use your knife for what it's designed for and you're not trying to cut down redwoods or through hardened steel bars, you should be good for a very long while.

I have used a Spiderco Delica folding lock blade for years as a pocket utility blade (love it) easy to sharpen holds a good edge and was resonablty priced I have Spiderco Rescue knife with a serrated edge that will cut thru Spectra/Dyneema or Vectran/Kevlar like a hot blade thru butter. For the big jobs I have a Pah Hrang that I bought from a road side black smith out side of Bangkok for $5.00 US made from truck spring, Best bush knife I have ever used or seen. If yo get one cut the point off it just gets in the way though.

Hi all, I just signed up on the past weekend.
I have been collecting knives andswords for a few years now. I like the K-Bar as fighting knife, and usulaly carry when in the woods.
Gerber has a good short machete for about $40 at crapy tire. It hold a good edge.
I am learning the preppers way of getting ready for shtf , as it will happen sooner than later.

Hi Ahmik,

I had ordered the bushmaster but it was backordered and then it became unavailable. my money was refunded, I am torn, I want at least an 7.5 -8 in blade but with good weight balance and comfortable handle and under 60.00. I am inclined to go with the sog predator but I dont like the overall size. will keep researching.

Everyone, avoid anything from Olympia. Anything. Their stuff is always flashy and always total shite. Especially the throwing knives and machetes.

I've seen and handled the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri. Did not really get to do much with it (was only in the store) but it did seem to warrant the 300$ they're selling it for. That same knife was chopping through bones like through straw and penetrating car hoods in the promotional video Cold Steel made for it. Extremely well balanced for a knife with an oversized and weirdly curved blade. I don't know what other kukris Cold Steel might have, but their Gurkha Kukri at around 300$ seems like the real thing. Hope this was helpful.

Fury Tactical knives are excellent. I have a boot knife from them and have seen their firefighter's knife. great blades, very functional, prices are around 40-50$ apiece. If you find something from them and think it will work for you, get it.

The Alaskan Bush series Knife and Hatchet combo is a good go. Mind you the nylon carrying case is not much to brag about. If you like Heft and solid these are the perfect prepper tool. No need to baton since you already have the hatchet at the ready. Really...like I care about batoning. Anyway, the reason I like this series is due in part that it has been field tested by some of the best hunters and gatherers out there and has come back with extremely positive feedback.

Back when I was working at an army surplus, we had a knife from John Ek. The E-K as we called it was high quality carbon steel, one piece, with paracord wrapped around the handle. Back then (around 1990) it sold for around $300.00 and in my opinion, worth every penny. Of course, this was only one of many models made.

It's too bad that the store fell victim to the economy and one day mysteriously burned to the ground. Given the recent interest in prepping, I'm sure I could have made the store a success today.

RUSS KOMER just put an excellent multi purpose hunter knife in a folder, Straight edge clip point and drop point with gut hook. Heres the deal. The knife is dual mold injected at the handle and has thumb grooves so you can creep up or choke up on the blade. Hollow ground carbon stainless with a rounded belly for gutting and skinning. The grat thing about it is the handling and price. Put out by CRKT out of the States. This is another good back up in the BOB Bag if you dont want to lose your knife when you drop it. Has a Grey Black handle with and Orange CRKT emblem at the rear or pommel. The scabbard is nylon with hard casing inside and can carry extras in the secondary pouch. IE, stone, mirror, fires starter. Good Quality and Good price. Does not rattle or drop out on the reverse hold. The name is RUSS KOMER FREE RANGE CLIP POINT HUNTER. Doesn't look like much until its in your hands and in and out of water. Most of us like a tactical knife but practical is good too. 49.00 plus tax and can be purchased froma good Canadian woman at Knifezone.ca (no Im not getting anything for this but I like mine and carry it in the mountains along with a bolo which I carry strapped to the side.
