Was looking for a different SOG on Cabela's site and came across this: http://www.cabelas.ca/product/57762/sog-spirit-throwing-knifespear

It's a throwing knife that can also screw onto a broom handle...making a spear. I'm looking at this now and kinda scratching my head. Doesn't exactly replace a survival knife. On the other hand it gives you reach, both for hunting and defense. The cavemen must've thought they had something or they would've stuck with sharp rocks. I dunno. Yay or neigh?

PS. I've already got lots of guns 😉

I like it! I've been using a homemade "walking staff" for a few yrs when i go into the bush sometimes.
about 6' long, hardwood with a 3/8" centredrilled hole in the thick end, and a 3/8 cold-rolled steel rod inserted, and 2 screwclamps to keep tight.

I own a SOG spirit spear myself. I like it personally, its threaded so you can screw it onto a broom handle to extend its reach or it has a small hole so you can pin it to a stick/branch if your outdoors. Sheath is kinda meh but I've seen worse. I personally wouldn't use it as a thrower as its not balanced (the handle is some kind of solid plastic). I've taken it as a neck type knife on a few hikes its good for small tasks and can be used as a make shift trowel. I paid 35$ for it when I got it though that was a few years ago, If it has gone up in price say 50$ or more I would pass on it. The fact you can unscrew it and lash it to broom handles and sticks is all that really makes it stand out any. For the price better to go with a cold steel bushman, one solid piece of steel, has amazing spring retention, bigger blade and is also hollow handled so you can store stuff in it or attack a shaft to make it a spear, plus they go on market for about 30$. But that's just my 2 discontinued penny's worth 😉
