OK, I spent a crap load more time working on this Excel sheet about Guns! It show you a comparison chart where you can see the different trajectories for Rifles, Handguns and Shotguns. I tried to write it in a format that would show you which is your logical weapon of choice. This can be determined by viewing the bullets trajectory to the size of game each weapon can take down and the distance you can likely shoot accurately to achieve a clean kill.
I included the bullet drift of only a 5mph breeze, so you would have a better understanding as to why not to take those long shots many claim they can do (It is far different to target practice in a location where you are steadied by a seat , bench or such, and think you can pull the same shot at a guessed distance, standing without support, and your heart thumping double time). Seeing the effects of wind and gravity will hopefully help you sort out the required rise and lead before you squeeze. You do this by making a mental note of these variations of your weapon of choice. The you note how far you can safely shoot before you run the risk on wounding your prey and possibly then losing the kill. If your shot exceeds this distance, it is better to stalk closer until your within the weapons true killing range for that sure kill.
The 2nd page allows you to determine how much it will cost when purchasing your choice of a few guns and ammo for your prepping.
- It will tally the total cost of the guns, including shipping, taxes and accessorizing each of them to better suit your needs.
- As you will also purchase bullets at this time, I included a section for tallying your choice of bullets to go with it.
- There is also a section to formulate cost per round from boxes to bulk purchase.
- I added another part where you can determine how long your ammo supply would last if you enter how many you think you might shoot weekly, while hunting, practicing or both.
Like every sheet I write, it is a work in progress and will never be fully complete. If you have ideas i should include to improve the sheet. mention it here. I again left this sheet unlocked so that you could play with it and alter it too as you see fit.
enjoy!

OK, I already edited it more and uploaded a newer version of it. It now includes data for Shotgun shells and their uses. I will hopefully find even further data regarding various range and pattern spread for specific shells.
There is alot of confusing data already out there and I hope to simplify it so folks can sort it out more easily. Seems there is also controversy over what is the best shells for home defense so I have hopefully included data for you to draw your own conclusions as best suits your needs.
(I'm not done yet) 🙄
Appreciate the spreadsheet Knuckle. Just out of curiosity, why do you suggest the Archangel stock on the 308?

Just an example...I would choose a folding stock first for that weapon but I like the Archangel too if I were strictly target shooting.
Those were scenarios I thought some might consider as a good choice for little investment. The point was to present how one might want to figure out the total investment of a versatile gun selection. Hopefully the reader sorts out that they can simply delete this gun for that without me having to explain further how the sheet works.
Again, for those who want a free program to view this sheet, you can get it at http://www.pc-file.com/openofficeorg?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PC_CA_en_Top_Productividad&utm_content=OpenOffice.org&utm_term=openoffice%20download . This program can work with any Microsoft form and is completely free.
Great article dude, but you know me shotgun little 22cal and crossbow or sling shot, if your not heard your not found.
I think it's finally near completion. 😆

(this is the area that could use improvement yet)
all Categories are color coded for quicker visuals of which ammo fits which weapons.
Sheet is now locked so data can't be damaged. Data input is still available in all required areas.
(it's received about 10 hours more work since last update)
I'd appreciate some feedback if errors are found or things that could be changed or added.
~ Knuckle ~
I have tried this latest version on my Android phone and I can view it either on Office Suite or Polaris Viewer (both shareware versions). Polaris Viewer does a far better job in maintaining the layout but Reduces fonts to basics. It's better for viewing but won't allow editing whereas Office Suite will.
I remain curious as to how this file fairs on an iPhone. Can someone load it on their iPhone and let others here know how and what program is best to use this on an iPhone? Could you also check if the images are working or if I should eliminate them for phone usage.
This will be the last version of this Excel sheet.
Changes:
- I fixed all the bugs I found playing with it. Since no one else listed any, they'll have to do.
- added costs per round for most caliber bullets(those not listed show which types would be hard to find)
- revamped mag and stripper clip count section
- improved other weapons section
- cleaned up the whole thing so it looks more appealing
created a Factors section:
- will help determine # of rounds spent on practice and hunting.
- then determines how long present bullet count will last per ammo type
- counts estimated calory count per food(per rnd) group which adds to your food supplies
- shows calories and protein for wild meats
It seems folks were still downloading the older versions of this file so I deleted them to remove any confusion. Therefore the latest version is at the start of this post . Download it and delete the older versions as they had code errors in some areas that would give false data in certain combinations. If you find errors in the sheet, simply come back and download again as I will just post the latest there after editing the file. (A sure telltale is to compare the files data size to the copy your presently have. If different, grab another copy as it is likely better).
I left the posts in between to show the mods and their purposes and to avoid a rewrite of this thread 🙄
It should now cover about every aspect required to determine which weapon you need, how much to the buy and outfit each to your specific needs, while inventorying your collections value and ammo supplies required.
Repairs:
-fixed calorie counter for wild game (Jun18)
Knuckle,
GOOD JOB on that spread sheet. The info on the calibers I have is spot on. And some questions I had, have been answered.

Thanks for the compliment. Hard to get them here. If you find any errors, let me know as I have already updated the file as I find them. Check if you have the latest version too by comparing the sizes of the file to the new one. No one wants a flaky program they can't trust!
