Congrats with your new toy! that really shoots well cos i have that!
Well after a few weeks waiting on the registration I finally got this thing to the range. I shot it alongside a new Ruger SP101 that I just got. Never noticed before, but those 2 guns have very similar proportions. Probably the only shootability difference is in the longer grip on the ALFA.
I was a little concerned at first that I forgot to bring a pencil or something to push the spent 9mm casings out of the ALFA PROJ. I was wondering if the first 6 shots would be the only ones I got that day. No need to worry though, I found it easy to flick the casings out with my fingernail. I stopped myself halfway through shaking the casings out ( 😡 ) but in an emergency you could do that too. Results might vary with different ammo, I was using Remington UMC 9mm hollow points.
I also tried out the moon clips. They certainly do make it easier to eject and reload quickly. But going without them isn't a huge deal either. For target practice it's easier to just pick the cases out, it only takes a second.
Now as far as shootability, I found the ALFA pretty natural to point and shoot. I'm a mediocre shot, partly because I don't take time to aim 😉 but in single-action mode I was still able to quickly pepper the target's chest with holes. Accuracy in double-action mode suffered notably, I'll probably wind up getting the spring kit for this gun. Still though, I'd probably use single-action for any target that wasn't on top of me.
Shot the Ruger next, using 38 specials. Initial accuracy was not nearly as good I found. Probably the extra hunk of rubber the ALFA has that the Ruger doesn't. After a while I learned to shift my grip and stiffen my wrist, and then I was shooting the crotch out of the target with ease 😈
Bottom line, I think the 9mm ALFA PROJ is a fine choice for any novice shooter. I wouldn't feel under-gunned if it was all I had.
