Been thinking about getting a Berger Lampe to help keep back germs that come with damp air. Thinking it would function very well without electricity, and much more portable than an air filter, if it worked. I just haven't seen a good review of them or supplier. Anyone have any experience with these?

I personally think it's a waist of money. Ppm (parts per million) of air in a place place i say nope for want it does. I think it's just a money grab. No way it would help kill anything. Basically a expensive scented air freshener really. Just thinking of air volume to air flow to the release of what they say ppm to do what it claims. You would need a shit ton and then I would be worried about co2 levels in place.

I've noticed some adds say that increases air supply. As flame consumes air and increases CO2, I can't see that this makes any sense.

I'm not an expert by any means but, my interest perked after seeing some website claim they were developed for use in hospitals in France in 1898. Supposedly the catalytic combustion of alcohol in it's special wick creates ozone and ionizes air (and if you use scented alcohol it is an air freshener as well).

I don't know if it produces ozone or ionizes the air or not but, if it does, I have found a study from NCBI that shows ozone inhibiting bacterial growth. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23249441

Maybe I'll buy one and give it a try - I found a wick for sale without the lamp for 40 bucks, I'll just pop it in an old jug and see if it does anything.

Interesting study, thanks. Let us know how you fare.

Good study "flanel_and_boots", i looked at ozone for water purification, drops out some heavy metals. The possibility of using it to create a safe environment in a biohazard situation gets me excited. I am not seeing how a lamp can produce ozone but hey, live and learn.
