Just thought about this and noticed I hadn't seen this on any ones list. The only reason I mentioned it was because I was working away in an isolated community and ended up breaking my glasses. With no optometrist within 1000 km I was able to at least get a cheap pair of reading glasses from the Northern Store. Reading was tolerable but distance stuff was fuzzy.
I recently had a laser eye procedure done, and like to think of it as a permanent prep, one that I always have with me.
After spending 15 yaers with glasses, the fogging up, scratches, breaking,I decided a more permanent solution was required.
For anyone considering it, I highly recommend doing it, and because it is a medical procedure a large part can be claimed on your income taxes.

It's been quite a while since I looked into this - at that time they couldn't correct long sightedness (my issue). Were you long or short sighted, may I ask?
Just started hearing ads for Laser/corrective treatments for people who need reading glasses so, far sighted. Heard on 680 news in the GTA area.
My packs now have a second pair of readers as well as Sunglasses with readers, wrapped and inside a hardened case. On the way to Mines last year, 3 pairs of glasses were scratched before the first day and I had to spend 3 weeks there with no options for getting more readers without scratches.. so lesson learned.

If you have presbyopia run like the devil is after you and don't look back if someone starts promoting this eye surgery treatment to you.
About 7 yrs. ago, they went through a wave of advertising it. I was living in Houston Tx at the time and it was being promoted all over the place. My eyes were getting "old" and I was not amused so I was thinking about it. I had an opportunity to have the surgery in China. This is a leading hospital which treats foreigners and the surgeons were trained at the Gimbel eye clinic in Calgary which was the leading eye research clinic in the world so I thought it was a good bet. WRONG!
I went in for the 20 min procedure with better then 20/20 vision for distance. I was told that my vision would be blurry for 3 weeks. At 3 weeks I was told it would be 3 months. I could read without glasses for 6 months but I could not see distance of any kind clearly for over 2 years and it took a full 7 years for my distance vision to become less then what I started with. I now have astigmatism in my left eye which I didn't have before the procedure and I have needed reading glasses for all but the first 6 months after the procedure was done.
I also had to have a new pair of glasses made every 4 months for the whole time because my eyes kept changing as they ever so slowly healed. I had never worn glasses in my life and now I needed a new prescription every 4 months just to be able to walk around without stumbling into something.
During this time, any lights-car lights street lights reading lights, you name it, looked like gigantic fireworks in the sky all run together, so night driving was out and anytime there was any amount of moisture in the air, I could not see anything because of the car headlights reflecting off the moisture. About 4 months after I had the surgery, all mention of it was wiped from the internet and all the eye clinics in the US, Canada and Britain which were the main promoters stopped offering it and it became like it never existed.
If they are promoting this treatment once again, no matter how badly you want it, WAIT. Don't be the guinea pig like I was.
wow OddDuck.
so sorry to hear this, now thank you for opening up and sharing.
Thanks, OddDuck. That's what I heard last time I looked into it, about 15 years ago, and that's why i said "No, thanks."
Just taken a new look around (pardon the pun!) and found this in NZ:
http://www.wefixeyes.co.nz/laser-blended-vision.php
Has anyone (in NZ or elsewhere) heard of "Laser Blended Vision"?
I was near-sighted prior to the eye surgery.
Now I have perfect vision, a true 20/15 result, and it took about 3 months after the surgery to get there.
I chose a Custom PRK procedure, and while it has a longer recovery time, it is a bit more "durable".
The clinic I had my procedure done at is world class, and they don't perform or recommend the blended vision correction, as it is still developing technology.

Thanks. I'd rather not be a test subject, aka Lab Rat! 😯
my eye sight was noticabley going down hill after I hit that magical number 40. After some small amount of research I started using certain antioxydents. While this improved the length of time +/- 10hrs) that my eyesight remained sharp I still needed a weak pair of glasses, which I had made cheaply at our own local optician. When combining the two methods I found that it relieved me from headaches caused by eyestrain . It works for me maybe it will work for you.
When in doubt think it out...(you thought I was gonna say something else?)
