Lemon is one of those super foods with a myriad health and cosmetic benefits, few are there.
1. Lemon being a citrus fruit, fights against infection.
It helps in production of WBC's and antibodies in blood which attacks the invading microorganism and prevents infection.
2. Lemon is an antioxidant which deactivates the free radicals preventing many dangerous diseases like stroke, cardiovascular diseases and cancers.
3. Lemon lowers blood pressure and increases the levels of HDL (good cholesterol) .

Prevention of scurvy! That's good enough for me. I have an irrational concern about scurvy 🙁

Aye mate's...that's what I think about when I think of scurvy 🙂 I drink the juice of 1/ a lemon each morning. Not something I'll be able to do without the grocery stores running in Ontario but until then...

If you drink lemon juice wash it down with a glass of plain water and don't brush your teeth for a half hour afterwards or you'll take the enamel off your teeth!

I've heard that if you buy the organic varieties that you can dehydrate the peels and grind them to make your own vitamin C - I would prefer to buy organic citrus but it's not always available...

Good gravy! You drink that straight up? I don't think I could do it. I think I'd get pucker-face.

Good to know about the teeth brushing. I didn't know it.

I plan to take the ol' English approach at vitamin C. Rosehips, pine needle tea and hedgefruits. Old things forgotten are just as relevant now as before.

I start each day with a hot water and juice of a lemon...I planted the seed from a meyer lemon and it is a year later and I have a tree about 18" tall, it will have to stay inside in winter but that is fine with me

Looking forward to reaping the benefits of my Meyer Lemon tree (currently developing fruit) and my Key Lime - slower but just starting to bud now.

Until the weather stabilize for Summer I keep pulling these bad boys inside to sit in my bay window 🙂

I also drink hot water and lemon, throughout the day, no tea or coffee for me please. I will drink just hot water, but I like the taste of the lemon in there and appreciate the goodness it is giving my body.
