I've never heard of this.

Not sure how pickle juice would effect cramps or shin splints. It could be a placebo. I asked the question on my triathlete forum, no one has ever heard of it.

update. lol. I googled it. I think i see the "reasoning" behind the cramps. But I think leg cramps vs. shin splints are two different beasts in this case.

The shin splints could be caused by a series of things (including the cramps too I guess) and it might be better to get to the cause to solve the problem instead of injesting something that might just be relieving the symptoms of that ongoing chronic issue. For example, I switched to a forefoot running style, and increased my cadence a year ago and my shin splints disappeared.

Unless I'm about to win an Olympic Gold...and the cramps suddenly hit me....no way am I gonna drink pickle juice! 😆 Sounds like something you'd dare each other in kindergarten! 😉

pickle juice is yellow in colour but that is where the similarities end 😀
it worked for me, so I will do it when it happens, the runner told me i tried it so passing along, eh.. might help might not, does not taste that bad either. Does not taste as good as the juice from the bottle of the Maraschino Cherries, but then again it has less calories LOL

I am 48 and happy to get along in life walking and biking as I have instability problems with a knee that has a severed ACL , comedial ligaments held together with scar tissue and no meiniscus cartiledge left to cushion . No running for this old girl and maybe too young for a replacement since I am still getting by. No excuses though , lots that can be done to improve health and fitness without pushing the knee .

Well it's been 10 days since I began this thread...just got home from travel and hotels since Sun night. Talk about complicated staying on track.
But my beautiful wife and great son helped me prep, and cut up enough veggies to build the 8 salads I would need for 4 days. Cooked enough chicken for 3.5 oz per salad, and enough eggs(6 per day, only the whites) to last me the trip. Salad was getting a bit soggy by Wed lunch, so had to toss 3 of them and go to subway to get their salad, chicken made it fine for all though.
Was able to get 1/2 hr per night in pool, and another 1/2 hr per night on bike or treadmill. Never touched anything not on my plan...though I had a coke zero while watching the game night before last. My official weigh in is tomorrow, but as of Wed I was at 290lbs, so down 5 more lbs in 8 days...working hard to get back into gear.
Don't get winded much now, so exercise is getting much more manageable, and enjoyable.

Anyway, hat's my check in...I'll post tomorrow what my official weigh in is at, but I am in a groove now and really enjoying myself. Sleeping better, more energy, and enjoying the eating habits, whereas I am never quite feeling hungry...eat 5 times per day (fruit for snacks in between) and some other breads (but some sorta sprout bread, can't remember it's name) and I am great...loving results, loving feeling great!

I hope the rest that decided to join in are making those healthy decisions and we hear from you as to where you're at in your journey.

Take care all,
Cheers,
OffThePath

Great job. keep going! And...not to be a wet blanket..but, when you start off the initial weight loss is significant, but it will level out shortly afterwards. Some weeks will be a couple pounds, other weeks nothing at all. This is OK. Just keep pushing whatever you do! 🙂

Again, congrats! And keep the updates coming!

Crownsown, thank you...And yeah, I get that there will be bumps in the journey,as I have filled this dance card once before...lol

I am fortunate (or un, the jury is still out) in regards to my focus and absolute belief in success...I am a dog with a bone, and will not let myself fail. So getting to my destination will be (funny to say) the easier part, when I arrive, I need to keep carrying on, and that is where my focus falters. As posted previouly, I have gone from 310lbs to a lean, strong, 225lbs then reverted back to old lifestyles which is my undoing...then once I start failing I get frustrated and let the slide continue...This time I am hoping now that my son is older and into many sports, we can become training buddies (at least cardio). He is in Ice hockey, 3on3 ice hockey, ball hockey, power skating, swim lessons and judo...He also has an interest in kickboxing of which I do as well, and rollerblading (me too), biking and paddling..these last 4 are all items I love as well, so hopefully he and I will train and play in these together.

At any rate, I will keep you all abreast as I transition, and hope that others feel motivated as well to join in and post up there successes...On my weigh in note, I am down 4lbs over the weekend, so officially at 284 at this time....

Cheers all, and success comes to those who seek it,

Wow! Congrats OffThePath! Truly inspirational! Thank you for sharing. I have quite a bit of weight to lose myself and your opening up about this topic makes me feel a lot more comfortable to talk about this too. I'm sure it's a personality thing (all other preppers let me know if you're similar) but I tend to strive for perfection to my own demise. Because NOTHING is perfect. Some days I can really feel how much I have let my body go and get down on myself about not being as fit as .. I dunno.. whoever... or as I was a few years ago. Perseverance and Prepping go hand in hand, after all it is what we are prepping for.. to persevere. Not only are you prepping your body but equally important your mind. Well done... I'll jump on this wagon with you!

Thanks for the words and climbing aboard PJ...good to have folks that are interested, and looking to make positive changes. Look forward to hear more of your progress as you move forward.
As for my progress, still chugging along. Down to 278 (6 lbs since last post up) but more importantly had my first good substantial week in the gym and on stationary bike at home...logged about 6 hours of intensive training, and am feeling very good.
Had all my blood work and heart tested, and passed all very well. A bit more fat around the liver then I should (nothing my dr was too worried about) but that is being worked on...but all else was great...no diabetes, good cholesterol...etc.

Best of all, I am sleeping great and feeling like a million bucks...must remember this feeling for future reference!

Cheers all,
OffThePath

OffThePath.. I definitely have to get a scale because I am not sure of exactly how much I weigh and won't be able to weigh myself. I know I stepped on a scale a month and a bit ago at my grandmothers and I was SHOCKED! I weighed 210lbs. I thought I was still around 197lbs. I'm a big girl trapped in a smaller girls mind! HA HA! I don't have much of a plan other than avoiding foods that trigger me to eat too much of like breads and cereal. I don' t have a problem with getting my veggies cause I love them, but I definitely have to get more active. So my hubby and I went walking in the bush for a good 2 hours today. The blood got pumping and I felt great during and after!

Hope you're still feeling like a million bucks and I can't wait to hear how you're doing! 🙂
