Hi all. I was just wondering if anyone has been tracking or keeping an eye on the new H7N9 bird flu in China and the new SARS-like coronavirus in the Middle East. So far no major human-to-human transmissions, but should these be cause for concern? I have been following and should they go pandemic, it could get nasty.

If you really want to track it, try this site http://www.who.int/csr/don/en/index.html

Its the World Health Organization Disease Outbreak News site.

Yeah, thanks for the link, Oldschool. Very useful. I don't get the flu vaccine either and neither do my kids. I believe in keeping the body healthy via the right diet so it can remain healthy and easily fight off infections. We try so hard in this world to AVOID infections, which is not possible, and I think our immune systems are all the weaker for it. I'm not saying people should not care what they are exposed to, of course, but when my kids were little I met mothers who would flip out if you brought your kid anywhere near their's if your kid had a simple cold. I had no problem exposing my kids to that stuff and they rarely get sick enough to get fevers or vomiting, they have no allergies or asthma, and they are fully healthy.

I don't believe in flu shots. I also can not have eggs and a lot of shots are egg based.

Flu Shot and Egg Allergies
People with egg allergy could have a reaction when given the flu vaccine because the vaccine may contain some amount of egg protein. Fortunately, even in individuals with confirmed egg allergy, flu vaccines may be administered under certain conditions by experienced physicians. Most reactions to flu vaccines are not due to egg-allergy.

Can I get the flu vaccine if I'm allergic to eggs?

Answer
from James T C Li, M.D., Ph.D.

Yes. Some flu vaccines are made using eggs. As a result, the vaccines have tiny amounts of egg proteins in them. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that if you're allergic to eggs that you can't get a flu shot.

There is a flu vaccine that doesn't contain egg proteins, approved for use in adults age 18 and older. And even flu vaccines that do have egg proteins can be given safely to most people with egg allergy without any problems.

If you've had a reaction to eggs in the past, talk to your doctor before getting a flu vaccination. Your doctor may choose to give you the vaccine made without use of eggs or send you to a physician who specializes in allergies. A skin test may be needed to see if you truly are allergic to eggs. A nurse or doctor will scratch a tiny amount of egg protein on your skin and watch to see if your skin reacts to it.

If the skin test is positive, you still will probably be able to get the influenza vaccine. Your doctor may want you to wait 30 minutes before leaving, in case you have a reaction. Some physicians recommend giving 10 percent of the vaccine in one injection, then the remaining 90 percent of the vaccine in a second injection if there is no reaction to the first dose.

I found this interesting, and if it's true, it's more than a little scary. Gotta hope it's just a hoax or highly false information.

I tried to check out the avianflutalk.com forum to read the thread and it won't allow it. I can read others, but not the one about New York. It appears for a brief moment and then goes to an error message. Hmmm...

How effective would colloidal silver be when it comes to the things you are discussing? If a person were to take it regularly would it maintain the immune system sufficiently? It's easy enough to make. The final step of using the reducing agent of carbohydrate powder that changes the solution from an ionic silver solution to a true colloidal silver solution that attacks viruses and bacteria when taken orally hopefully will work because I don't believe in flu shots either.Anybody with the knowledge and experience out there that would know ?

Naka, I don't know enough about colloidal silver to answer your question, although my curiosity is piqued and I am going to look into it. I believe the absolute best thing for the immune system is to east a proper diet, including loads of fresh fruits and veggies, along with pastured meat and dairy, if that is consumed, low amounts of grains and NO refined foods. I have not been eating all that great lately and am in the process of cleaning up my diet so that I am eating this way. Otherwise, additional vit. C in the diet and perhaps colloidal silver to add a little extra oomph.
