Hi Folks, on a thread about canes, crutches and or walkers, we touched on other things, made me think we should have a sick room/supplies thread. it can cover everything from, do you have a room, you are planning on using, can it have its own way in and out? What kind of supplies and items are you storing for it? etc etc
I wil get back to you on the basics of what I have, but want to hear from you all!
This is a great idea.
A collection of medical/health supplies, equipment, etc. is essential. I think it would contain items as complex or as simple as someone's capability and experience. It would be interesting to see what variety of equipment and supplies different people have based on there history, experience, and profession. A field medic with the military, or nurse / dr. or other medical professional would have such a wide base of knowledge and ability to use more complex equipment compared to a layman with standard first aid. Someone with vast wilderness/outdoor survival experience may provide some great items/tips from that perspective also.
We don't have a specific room persay, but do have a significant (relatively I guess) supply of Emergency/Standard First Aid supplies. (Band aids, guaze, antiseptics, triangular bandages, splints, etc.)
Aside from the standard supplies which I dont think needs to be listed, we also keep:
-A.R. Mask
-Epi-Pen
-Antihistimines, Various Pain relievers/anti inflammatories, OTC pharmaceuticals for heart burn, diarrhea, constipation, infection, etc.
-Suture Kit
-Saline Solution (changed periodically)
-alcohol (for infection control on surfaces)
-Various First Aid books
-Gloves, face mask
-stethoscope
-blood pressure cuff
-"Quikclot" (brand name, don't know the name of the chemical to pour on wounds.)
-couple 1/2" wood dowels (to be used with trian. bandages as tournequet.)

Lets see in regards to my own sick room..
So first I have the ability because my house has three sections to it, the orginal house, the new part of the house, and the add on (which is a full sized attached trailer..
This means that I have the ability to create a sick room if needed that you access though its own outside door and that you don't cross back into the other parts of the house if you choose not to.
I have all the standard basics for a typical sick room.
Extra's for the sick room include the chair porta potty, bedpans, steel wash bins, steel water jugs, steel extra's, I also keep extra plastic bed covers, pillow covers, as well as a two dozen large bed "sheet"s, the ones that are soft cloth covered on the top, thick padding in the middle and plastic on the bottom.
I keep a large box of the adult sized bladder control bed pads, ideally I like to have two box's in the house, but need to restock on that since lambing time (as I use them for in the birthing process)
I keep a basic med kit (that would include all the normal things that a homemade med kit would in fact use, including pain meds, bandaids, and all the basic and rounded out over the counter meds.
This was built for small baby animal use but can be modified, I have two version of this, one is a homemade neonatal unit for small babies, with limited 02 help, along with heat etc.
This was a full setup that was part home built, part bought and is based fully on Myra Harris system but also got some extra from england

also have bought at the same seminar the extra's needed to do a moveable homemade version of the extra o2, again as it can be used for the lambs, and other small critters born in the barn as required.

While both of these are not human per say, as the 02 is got at the scub shop, its can be used in a pinch if there was nothing better to do so.
As for kits and tools, I have a large collection of different medical kits, almost all of them are based on vet care, raither then human.. but again, many of them can easily be crossed over
Example, I keep extra supplies of cleaners, I very much like the one brand as it comes in a sealed waterproof container, can be good up to three or five years ahead if you watch your dates well, and one tab makes up with this much water is used for basic's, this much water for cleaning stalls, barns, this much for cleaning and spraying down for counters and at a certain mix can be used to sterilize steel equipment.
Clearly not as good as what the currnet medical can get but much better then other choices.
I do keep, grow, harvest and study many herbs, plants etc, making my own things for medical use, having said that, I am aware that we are darn lucky to live in the times we do and I keep a supply of more advantaged meds, wormers as well.
Many, many books on basic and more in regards to care.
I also have a small ultrasound unit, it would have limited use for people but its would have some uses for sure, this is currently used mainly for checking for wee ones on the farm, but has also been used for checking on small wounds and tendons etc
I'm sure I am forgetting things but that's a good start..
