Hi all! Greetings from Campbell River! It's refreshing to see there's so many like minded people out there. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only prepper, at least around these parts. So many people scoff at the idea of prepping, thinking that there will be government assistance - or really thinking there will be no kind of emergency situation at all! I keep my preparations to myself now, don't want any moochers when the time comes. I've been prepping for a few years now since my son was born. At first it was just a bit of 'earthquake food' but has since grown into well a bit more. Prepping does cost money and it's best just to prioritize items and spread it out over time. I figure I'm about half way to the point of being comfortable with my preps. Hope to be of help to anyone!

Hi wookie,

Welcome to the site. I'm further down the island, in la-la land aka Victoria. I was pretty much on my own too, until my friend, paintergirl, arrived back in town. It's nice to have a friend who is also into prepping to compare ideas with. It helps keep up the energy, and not feel nutty about having enough food and equipment on hand to get through the unexpected.

See you around the site.

Hi Wookie,
I am a former CR girl myself. (Took a trip up there not long ago to show my adult kids some of my old neighborhoods and local landmarks ~the big rock, lol) Prepping does feel like such a solitary activity at times but that is what is great about sites like this, like attracts like.

My grandma was a prepper, but it was never called that back then. She "put away",canned, kept a pantry, and she was called thrifty, because she saved and re-used everything long before recycling became cool. I am probably only half way there in my preps as well, just a bit at a time do to my uneven employment situation ... I love youtube, especially if I can find a sound way of navigating an obstacle that felt like it had me stalled or learning a new skill....

The BC Pep should have an office somewhere on the north end, not sure where but I am guessing there should be a branch around Comox or CR. There used to be a lot of self-sustainers/off grid people around those parts and going north, I used to know a few on Quadra Island...people prep for various reasons, but with a little time, I think you will find some! 🙂

Hi Vanislemom and Paintergirl! Thanks for the welcome! We just moved up here from Vic/Sidney 4 years ago. Love it here. Ya I'm sure there's lots of 'off the grid' folks up here. We like to explore the islands - especially Cortez, beautiful, I bet there's preppers there!
Yay Islanders!

Im glad to see that there are so many others out there! Ive always been intrested in the idea of "self sustaining" now it become more of a cross between that and "what if". Hope to see lots more stuff on here!

Hi all, I'm formerly from the Island and lived for a while in CR - back in the 70s (disco was great at the DI back then) 😆
So now I'm in beautiful Kelowna and love it. Have been prepping for a few years, since someone I met by chance, told me about Alex Jones etc. and it got me to open my eyes to what was really going on. Also - be sure to check out www.shtfplan.com for the 'real news'.

I just want to say that prepping is more than something we do for emergencies, it really becomes a way of life and a new mindset. I see it as a very common sense thing to do and it's a financially responsible thing to do. Let's face it, food prices have never gone down, they just keep rising. So whatever your reasons are for doing it, it just makes sense.

I also started pressure canning meat and other such foods. Great way to store for the long term without the need for refridgeration...best thing I ever did.

Morning all new to the forum so i guess an introduction is in order my name is Mark and I live in the Nanaimo Area and have been a prepper for some time as it were and feel that like minded people in close geographical areas should pull there resources together in times of crisis.
A little background information on my self I am in my mid 40's and have been involved over the years with many organizations ie..military,search and rescue,etc..
And feel I have some valuable skills do to the nature of my employment over the last 28 or so years to bring to the party I have worked in the construction Industry for most of my adult life spending the last 15 as a millwright hence the diversity of my skills
This is the short list of what I have to offer to a local preppers group, Advanced level 3 medic, welder fabricator, electrican, mechanic, carpenter, heavy equipment operator, wilderness survival instructor,Ias well am well versed in caving, mountaineering, small arms and hand to hand combat to name a few and Iam very well rounded and work well with others under pressure If there are others in the Nanaimo or mid island area that feel that some of these skills may be an asset to a local preppers group get a hold of me via the forum so we can talk.

Regards Mark K
