Hello there,
I came across the site while looking for a cooking wood stove. Boy! it is hard to find something in Alberta of that nature. I am so glad that the search brought me here. I am starting to learn some skills for survival, cause you never know when you may need it. Honestly it all happened because of a power outage here in Edmonton right after I had gotten back from work... so basically i had no food or light or anything so off i went to get something for dinner. It just hit me right there how reliant we are in technology and mainly electricity. What would happen if we were out of it in mid january?! So here I am, I will appreciate all the advice and help from you all.

Head to 16503 Stony plain rd Edmonton to look at new fancy ones, search kijiji emonton area with search terms wood cook stove and up will pop a page of them, increase the area search to alberta and up will pop a couple pages of them for sale, alternetly you can head down to the two Antique malls on Calgary trail north just south of 82 ave and I know two are at one place and one is at the other location ( I was just there last weekend), but they do come and go.

Don't rule out propane, easy enough to pick up a used gas stove cheap, and hook it up to a 20 pounder and just keep it on your deck or in a grden shed ready to use if needed, lots of ways to skin this cat

Welcome TudorLady! Here's a pic of my wood cookstove http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=3033
I love it and use it all winter long - had my first fire in it today! It's a Heartland Sweetheart - I've had it for 17 yrs.
