Thanks farmgal for taking the time to make the video, it was well done and will be easy to learn from.
Now all I have to do is finish the grow out cage and then catch the little things.

Well we got them sexed after we did it twice which was a good thing because we were wrong on one of them.
6 does and 2 bucks now my daughter has to choose which doe she wants to keep. She has it narrowed down to
2 a black one and a white one with a black nose. Since its the first time for her were thinking on letting
her keep the black one and the white one which would give us 3 does. Thanks again for the video farmgal.

I have been amiss in familiarizing my rabbits to being handled , and I will point out beyond being able to sex them, any medical attention or even slaughtering will be calmer if they are familiar with being handled . Thanks for that farmgirl.

Thanks guys, that is great news that your sexing went well, keep us posted as it goes and if you have any questions when you get to the butcher stage or if you are going to be working your hides, happy to help if I can 🙂 Same with recipes or ways to cut up the parts etc.

Farmgal I now have 3 does. What I'm wandering if they are all kept in one big hutch if they would use the same birthing box
if they are rotated and cleaned out between each one.

Hi Wha

While they are getting along ok right now because its the growing daughters to the mother, as soon as they are fully sexual mature /breed, they will start to fight, while its nice to have double or even triple hutches so they can lay side by side by the wires, each doe will need her own hutch, most does, don't like to be moved from hutch to hutch during their pregnancy if you can avoid it, so I can't even recommend that you move them around to the hutch that has the birthing box, you can build as box that can be moved in and out if you don't mind losing the floor space and its covered of course.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to get to work and build another hutch.

Going to soon start putting some buns down, is their any difference in skinning a male to that of a female. Also do you have to soak
it in water and salt over night before you cook it.

no difference at all between males/females other then size, the male tend be bigger, most time the does need another week or two to get to the same size.

yes, a salt water bath and a in water or bag/well covered relax period before cooking is needed

Farmgal my doe is due within the next week and a half. Where I slaughter my other does it is about 10 feet from the cages
will the smell of blood bother mama to be and cause problems with her pregnancy, if so I'll wait till the baby's are born.

Hi Wha,

I don't recommend then seeing you do the deed, even if its just dropping a sheet over the hutch etc, but as for the smells, I have never noticed a issue, my main outdoor butcher steel sinks and set up is around 30 or 40 feet from the main hutches outside and they never have a issue with it.

There was an excellant conversation over on the Survival podcast forum about the prospects of keeping chicken and rabbit production in the same area over winter and mention of problems of ammonia fumes. I am looking at moving my rabbits inside with a laying flock and a small meat chicken breeding flock, after having them out all summer . In hindsight I think inside would have eased my workload and would have perhaps been cooler for them over summer too.

My rabbits are all in outside (with both outdoor and indoor area and lots of bedding) year around, we cleanout under the hutches in the fall for use in the gardens, and then again in the spring, never had a issue but the idea of bringing them in, would be for me, I deep litter the chicken pen and would not want the added costs that the rabbits would bring in this way.

Breed 1 of our does this week and it was like the male didn't know what to do it took a bit before he tried to mount her. When he did he did it once and then tried to cozy up to her. Should we do it again in a few days or wait and see if she has any.
