Hi - I'm new to prepping and am wondering how to keep water in a car kit over the winter. I know plastic bottles freeze and bulge.
Ice cubes in a zip lock work great. Take what you need aND melt as required.
Crap. Um, do a double boiler style setup with cans and a candle to thaw out a bottle very quickly.
Or you can fill the bottle half way to keep it from bursting. But otherwise, there's no way to keep it from freezing.

I have also done as WestShield has said. I have left containers half filled over night outside in winter with the lid off to allow for expansion when freezing.
Thanks for the replies. Got it sorted out.
What did you end up doing Prepper51?

I just put them in zip lock bags and into the trunk.
Listen to Ghost Prepper about heating up the water. Sucking on ice of any kind lowers your core temp.
Easy thaw is a small black plastic dish your container will lay in on dash
Works like a solar oven
Good question though

Ya very true. Best to have a way to melt it. Preferably if it's a winter scenario, a way to make the water hot. I keep a couple tea bags in my truck too. Keep the chill off better that way 😉
