lets all cry some more.
if you dont like it, dont read it. where exactley are all of these conspiracy theory bombs going off? I havnt seen any. If i was to read a post that I thought was a little out of my scope, or I considered the poster to be a whack job, I would simply avoid that poster. I have done this in the past, and will continue to do so in the future.
Remember kids, the only thing that makes a conspiracy theory a crazy conspiracy theory is the ammount of people who believe in it. If you get enought people to believe in it, all of a sudden it becomes truth. Remember back when the earth was flat? those were the days
See you all after.
Denob, is the issue that some people find the posts offensive? or that some people believe certain posts will attract unwanted alphabet agency attention, and thats why they delete their accounts?
See you all after.
I believe in freedom of speech. That includes Denob's right to moderate this forum within the guidelines of the main group. This is about prepping. The cause is not the question. What we are going to do is.
Denob, with you 100%.
Hey remington870...With all due respect, "The cause is not the question"??? Do you really think that prepping for a 3 week truckers strike that chokes off food supplies would be the same as prepping for WW III. Read the mission statement of this forum.
mission statement: “to promote the idea of personal responsibility in regards to preparedness in the face of natural and man-made disasters” and “It is the mission of this forum to inform people of the true and realistic dangers”.

"True and Realistic dangers". The moderator has enforced this.

Maybe this is a conspiracy by the Government to shut down this forum..is Denob really a moderator, or is he a CIA operative bent on shutting down all forms of prepping..
Just trying to lighten the mood...........

"A conspiracy theory explains an event as being the result of an alleged plot by a covert group or organization or, more broadly, the idea that important political, social or economic events are the products of secret plots that are largely unknown to the general public"
I don't think that it is the "conspiracy theory" that is the issue but the sometimes rude or nasty answers to some things on the forum. It seems to me like some people think that their way is the only way and take a difference of opinion as a person attack and respond with "force".
I don't know what happened to this forum in the last year but I know things have to change. It used to be a place for sharing ideas not bashing them.

The problem is the tolerance of concepts that are simply not true or not proven. If you post something that really is "way out there" shouldn't it be challenged? Because the term "theory" is used so haphazardly, we automatically give it some credence when you add it to the word conspiracy. In fact, most of these "conspiracy theories" are really hypotheses and some scattered facts when...if you connect the dots in a certain way will give you the answer you want... That doesn't make a theory...
I'm sorry if it offends, but being tolerant in this world doesn't mean you have to accept every idea that comes along or even worse, not challenging it to ensure it is (or isn't) legitimate. This is what the larger scientific community does to everything including itself and why most "conspiracy theories" are never given any serious consideration. They simply don't stand up to scrutiny. For someone to continue to preach a conspiracy "theory" is doing a disservice to the public, and in this instance, to other preppers who may be improperly influenced by this information that is a fox in sheep's clothing.
Contrary to many alternative conspiracy "theorists"...the scientific base of knowledge is so vast it readily picks up new concepts and ideas all the time. There is no Us vs. Them...there just "is." But part of the juicy and alluring properties of a conspiracy is the confrontation against the status quo. We see this not only in political conspiracy theories, but also in pseudo science, health and medical "remedies", etc. The "what the gov't doesn't want you to know" line... Its easier to create a confrontation than to deal in fact.
There has to be logic in the explanation. Unfortunately ( especially for my generation..which I think has led to much of the problems) they stopped teaching Logic in secondary school. And unless you studied it specifically in post secondary (most intro to philosophy courses, or computer courses will teach this) the concept is more foreign then we think.

How about we try to keep the forum as open as possible, strive to be tolerant, all act like adults and most of all treat each other with respect?
I'm new here, and I like this rule. I came to get information, share ideas, and learn from those who have been doing and thinking about this longer than me. I'm not at all interested in where obama was born.
I'm interested to see how far this goes and if it gets Resolved maturely.this may be an unwitting exercise in how fast our community would break down and turn on each other when the SHTF. All over a minor difference of opinion. I see merit in both sides of the discussion so I really don't know who's wrong and who's right, besides I'm new here so I feel I haven't earned the right to take sides, but like I said it's an interesting study on can we resolve this. After SHTF any rift could lead to "tribal" warfare or at the very least a weakening of the remainder of "civilization".
This is a tough one. While I understand the decision, I personally love consiracy theories and religion debating. I'm a Carlinite. lol. Anyways... if not here... then where I ask? I find I learn through such conversations. I remember posting something that was associated with David Suzuki and the responses after that were on a full tear. Turns out... the guy has a questionable history I was not fully aware of. It rattled my beliefs in him but then it promoted some digging on my own to substantiate the claims that were made and sure enough... there was validity in their responses. I may not have liked how they full on bashed him but turns out it was earned on some levels. My point is... I may be one of the few to have their beliefs in a subject rattled and not go into full defence mode and get angry and fight back. I did what, in my opinion, a grown up should do when such a thing happens to them. Be calm, do your homework and carry on. Sadly, as almost all of us will agree on... the vast majority of people cannot do this so... sure, this rule makes sense. I dont like it but it makes sense.
We have this same rule on our Google Plus prepper community... its only for helping people with the lifestyle and no politics or religion allowed. Its hard for me because like I said... I thrive on such debates. Just wanted to chime in to add one more thought to the list of responses that while many dont like it... I somehow suspect many more do? Just a hunch. I will concede to whatever you decide eventually of course.
No matter how good or bad your life is, wake up each day thankful because someone somewhere else right now is fighting for theirs
Afternoon Denob,
I go away for one winter campout and this Forum dissolves into 2 polarized camps. Wow, folks what happened.
To stay on topic and to be logical. I might start by inquiring if it would be at all possible for IPN to allow a new country page to be constructed. For the sake of this idea, I will call the new country "The Lunatic Fringe" it would be a virtual country made up of thinkers, idea people, critics and skeptics. This virtual nation will not be held to geographical boundaries but will be defined by the open exchange of ideas, problems, threats to the prepping community and those that wish to counter the ideas presented.
This would not be a place for hate, intolerance or bigotry. But, that also does not mean that all the topics that could be discussed and debated at length would be pleasant to all readers. So, it would be a reader beware environment. If you are uncomfortable with the topic, stop reading and find a more comfortable topic to review. Of course, the more points of view that are contributed to any given post or thread would add balance and legitimacy to the debate. I agree, one sided debates soon become a bore. For those interested in learning and exchanging ideas, it is very difficult to slowdown at times and recall that there are rules for such exchanges. Some of these rules although enacted to curb a certain behaviour, in the end they suffocate the creating, posting and exchanging of ideas.
To those trying to plan for the safety of their loved ones, reading the far fetched extremes of the human condition can create some of their best plans to overcome such extreme obstacles to their survival.
So, should there be rules for orderly conduct on the Forum - YES. Should there be a place on this Forum (IPN) for the open exchange of ideas, thoughts, theories or conspiracies - YES. Maybe not on the CPN, but somewhere on the IPN.
But that is just my thoughts on this.
Mountainman.
