Hello Folks. I'm in the Coquitlam area of British Columbia. Thought I should check around and see for myself if there are Canadian Preppers out there doing their thing. It's really good to see that there are like minded folks around. I moved to BC from rural Ontario way back in the 70's. (Yes, a mother earth lovin Hippie). Well, I used to be. Could I still be one? Maybe?.

Thank God that I haven't lost some of my early 70's back-to-the-lander experience . Got married rather late in life, which was actually a cool experience. Blessed with two girls, I got them some Chickens as pets a few years ago, about 20. LOL Well, you can imagine the fun I had with that. (all within city limits)

Do have a nice postage stamp vegetable garden, fruit trees, solar food dryer in the summer and a good fish and meat smoker. You actually don’t need that much land. And canning when produce is abundant and really cheap almost eliminates the need for a garden anyway. I do like to grow tobacco.

I guess that I'm a prepper? However, I'm not as paranoid as our Southern Cousins. I believe that if and when, as you folks say the SHTF. It'll be starting South of the border. Which will give us plenty of notice that something's in the wind. Having spent many years on this marble, I feel that something definitely is on the way. And soon.

Personally, I'm not sure that I would really like the idea of Bugging -out. Bugging -in sounds a little safer to me. An emergency or, a government created situation "down south" would most certainly have a ripple effect in our country. But, I don't think it'll be as drastic as would happen in our country. We might have a sudden influx of Americans with campers and fully armed claiming asylum. But then, we have the CIA, FBI and Homeland Security departments securely established in major cities within our country, (That’ll stop them at the gates). Thanks to our Government giving them access. They’ll even give the US our Canadians to put in their jails. Fancy that eh!
Anyone read Orwell’s 1984?

I suggest that if one is serious about guarding their families and well being in times of hardship.... Find yourself plenty of old (70's) Mother Earth News mags. You'll find articles on gardening, how to make wind turbines, health, food drying, animal husbandry and much more. Feel free to email me if you like. I’ll be happy to hear from you. In the meantime, Blessings, stock up and be well.

Albertasaurus

I'm in the Coquitlam area as well Albertasaurus. Message me anytime. I think we'd have a lot in common. Not really a hardcore prepper but approaching 40 and learned a lot from the folks about war time experiences so take nothing for granted. If for nothing else, let's talk garden stuff. I work in the city as well.

Kevin.

New Member here, been a self sufficient type all my life , My wife and I teach our children all the skills we have gathered over our years, looking forward to learning new things and if we can offer advice/assistance, we are good with computers, mechanics, thinking outside the box. Good with Leather, knife making , wood working.
We are in the greater Saint John NB area and would not be opposed to meet n greets and idea sharing.

Cheers

Hi all. New to prepping, but have believed for quite a while. Jumped in with both feet and ordered mylar bags and O2 absorbers which I got on Monday. Went to no frills and stocked up on supplies today and got the bags to seal first attempt. next week it'll be the gasoline and preservative.

I'm new to this idea of "prepping" and I like it. One of the projects I'm working on is actually a prepping project, but I didn't know that until a few minutes ago.

And I really like the code of conduct, especially about Free Speech. It reminds me of the old Jewish saying "You're also right!", which is used when two or more people disagree on something contentious.

I guess one of the first things I'd like to learn is how to train a community, such as a church or synagogue, to be aware of the issues. Are the educational guides for this type of thing?
