First, half of Italy was put into lock down, then all of it, then now all businesses in Italy are to close except groceries and pharmacies. Seeing the progression of this and knowing (now ) its a likely hood that such action could come here I would advise for those that haven't put away some food stores you really should get at it. I was going over my list of food purchases since January, Only buying on sale items. I made up a list of just the things I have bought. Using the prices I paid I made up a list and a approximate quantity amount. You should have 1 000 000 calories stored per person. my list here only comes to about half that, just because I haven't bought other things on sale this year,(so I don't know current pricing, but this should give a idea of cost. And for nearly 500 000 calories the cost is roughly 750 dollars, It would take about another 700 dollars in sale buying to bring your total calories up to 1 000 000, and increase the range of what you can eat. All things considered 1400-1500 (buying mostly loss leader sales) for a years worth of food just isn't that bad. I know people paying more for their cell phone plans! Just for general interest, about 10 years ago, with proper shopping habits you could spend 1000.00 and put away 1 000 000 calories
You may not be able to find powdered milk now, I am hearing and seeing for myself that no one seems to have any, it disappeared with the toilet paper. Panic toilet paper buying= foolish, Powdered milk buying, even in a panic = smart
One thing I noticed at the stores when I last walked through them was one food section that people did not appear to be stocking up on, in fact the shelves often looked fully faced...want to take a guess what section that was?

We have the calories put up for ourselves.. but I am putting a massive push into growing calories this year in the garden plans.. not that it will help anyone in the next while..
I was able to talk to my mom and get her to put up extra .. Powdered milk was one of the first things I pushed to make sure she got a bit more in. I was able to get her to understand a few weeks earlier then most to get it done and in her apartment.
She was out for a few things and was like.. its not in stores now.. its empty spots and I am like.. ya mom.. that is why I pushed you to get these thing a month ago!

I see a lockdown coming, maybe rotating through different areas of the country. I dont know about other provinces, but our Trump lite marionete has been devastating health care funding in this province. I see it getting ugly and if we dont lock down the border, I dont see how we can contain it here. We will just be playing wack a mole due to reinfections from the U.S. I believe its way worse in the U.S than they even know for reasons previously stated. I was slow in seeing how fast this would develop, its months ahead of where I first thought it would be.
I am wondering if this virus will evolve to jump to cattle, horses and such....if its not stomped out and given time that's a mutation I could see develop.

Current numbers ( known) are low in canada but as we all know, that can quadruple in a week. So I am guessing we will have all schools, events... shut down in two weeks.
Sadly we are still allowing the world into the nation and that has to be one of the dumbest things Imaginable. They talk containment and then open the box lid. It’s identical to what many on this and other sites discuss. You prepare, stock up... but you do not prep for the neighborhood and tell all family members to come on over and eat all your supplies.
Like all protective measures, they are not anti social, racist and all the other blather people try and peg you with so you feel bad and give them what they want. It’s plain simple logic.
I hope they shut things down soon, should have been done in January but here we are once more needing to just doing it. have a hunch this can really drag on beyond two weeks of quarantine. Going to be hard to say to the groundhogs, come on out now, when cases are still popping up. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if one isn’t stuck at home for a good month.
The longer we fiddle around being half pregnant, the longer the delivery and costs being costs, the longer we disrupt things the costlier. Get serious and get it done. We have zero hospital surge capacity, zero real emergency masks or equipment that will last, so the less people in need, the better.
I also agree with peppercorn on shutting US border, we should talk with president Trump and come to a proactive agreement, focus on measures to keep trade open, but shut down human traffic. We do not trade being impacted due to some Canuck being accused of spreading in the US. Let’s be proactive and strengthen alliances

It appears that this virus is especially hard on the over 50s, those with high blood pressure/ heart problems. In the news they said the over 60s but when you look at the data it looks like the effected start right around the 50s, and climbs fast.
I would say at this point any country not locking down their borders is extremely negligent, that includes my own. We are seeing the exponential function unabated.

Here’s the thing, I have been at the game for decades and can assure you, bush, Obama..., harper, Trudeau.... have all not given emergency preparedness the due it deserves. No rich person of any color or nationality ever wants to be with the peasant class. None. Did Obama order in massive stockpiles of PPE? Ah no! Weird, the savior didn’t ramp up supplies after evil GW was gone. Odd!
This isn’t the place for political debate and while I often appear to be harsh on our masters and their minions, I do know that regardless of political stripes, they all fail.
