I am giving up on having a cell phone. I just dont get good service where I live, always dropping out, missing calls and such, never mind the stupid cost for having something that doesnt work when I need it to, plus I am tired of the endless software updates that seems to make my phone less useable each time, and dont even get me started on its surveillance capabilities (of me) that I ironically pay for.

I can go back to a land line, thats going to be 30-35 dollars a month or so, I am ok with that cost, at least the phone will work.
I have heard of Magic Jack and some other over the computer phones and am looking into those as well, I see lots on online reviews of the services, but I just dont know of anyone personally using them. It looks like you just plug a card into a usb port and plug your land line phone into the card and you are good to go. This has me thinking that if I keep a old laptop in my truck when I go to the city, I should be able to plug the card into my laptop, the phone into my card and have phone service near any free wifi locations in the city, of which there are lots. Still looking into this, one thing I like is the cost, its dirt cheap 3 year plans for 99 dollars or 5 years for 139.00.

Any users of such services on here?

I guess I will find out if it is any good. I placed my order today.
Just starting with the 49 dollar one year plan (that somehow becomes a 66 dollar plan when ordered due to bull Shite fees added in ), If it works ok then at the end of the year I will lock in a 5 year plan for 139 dollars, that I expect will really total 175.00 by the time they stack on more fluff charges. Still even if it comes in at 175.00 thats going to a cost less than 3 dollars a month for over 5 years of phone service. The claims are that I still get all kinds of features like call display, call blocking, call forwarding, voice mail, and free calling in North America.
I will soon find out.

After asking most everyone I knew if they had ever had such a service before, I found one friend who had used a similar system years a go, he said it worked perfect, but he had to drop it as his business required he had a cell phone on his person at all times.
