There was a thread on alternative cooking. I am just following up on that, but in regard to propane consumption. Some people mentioned Propane. So for the benefit of those who may look at this as a alternative, or as the prime way of cooking, how about those of us who do use propane for cooking tell about how much they consume just cooking, figure I cant be the only one who tracks consumption! I will go last.
How much do you use in one year for cooking typically ?
What type of stove...such as electronic ignition, or is it a pilot light model? (I have one of each)
If cooking for more than one or two, state how many as larger numbers can skew the results greatly.
How happy are you with it?
What down sides have you found if any?
What would be your cost for this yearly? (I expect wide ranges for this due to geography )
Problems, Have you had any? any models that are a dog ?, or are expensive to repair?

Never just did cooking. I only use my propane for fridge and cooking off and on. 20 lbs last 2 weeks in summer and longer in winter. Will hook it up to run off a bottle alone this winter. Do to we use it only for coffee and breakfast in morning. We cook supper on the open fire all yr round outside. Plus we do have a propane lantern. 16 oz bottle last about 2 weeks for that to.
Well its been a week and its looks like its just Therm0shad and I using propane. Just not a large enough sample size to glean accurate info from. Though I am surprised that you can get two weeks on a propane lantern, I would have thought much less.

True it can be used up fast. But we only use it maybe a hr max a night. Have head lamps and few lanterns that run of battery's. Lantern battery last about a week about 4hrs a night. Head lamp is on about 8 hrs a night and last about 4 days. Only to be able to get to the washroom. That one is for. Just enough lite. Plus having solar panels helps allot. Only had generator on 4x this month about 20 bucks. Cloudy days and rain suck. But once i get a charge control only thing left to get. Then increase my battery's right now we change it to charge battery's. Do to if left and battery gets full. It heats up negative hookup and melts them. Only 1 out of 10 hook ups got screwed up. So hook it to use to run fan straight off solar panel.
One of these little ones last for about 1 day if you use it for 3 meal preparation sessions + boiling water.
Something to keep in mind if you are planning on using Propane for a bug out or in.
7 will last for a week. So having a month's worth stored away may be do-able, but beyond that you'll be cooking with wood.
My experience has these lasting for far more than a days worth of meals. Keep wind effect down, lid on pot to retain heat minimize cooking time for pot or frying pan and maybe not cook as long as you think is needed. No need to get food well done when medium is safe. Plus, more nutrition in less cooked foods.
Killing germs is important but no need to overdue it
