I though it might prove an interesting conversation to have a discussion in regards to our local media here in New Brunswick, or throughout Canada for that matter. The reason being, this past weekend I was listening to our local talk radio here in Moncton, and a caller made a point to the radio host that they appear to always take the side of the U.N on matters pertaining to Libya/ Syria. The caller was trying to point out alternative point of view on the subject, but that did not last long, as the hostess shut him down in about 1 min flat. It was interesting as he did not seem to be an un-educated person, and he was not arrogant or rude. What I found interesting about this call was the follow up calls directly after the hostess cut him off. At very least three other people called in to agree with the mans point of view, and they to were thrown down the tube like conspirators. To put it mildly, I was very dissapointed that alternative point of view in regards to U.N/ U.S foreign policy seem to be immediately dissmissed as conspiracy. Last year, on the Todd Veno program , I made a point to call in and question the "rebel" forces that were being armed to "help " the people of Libya. In my discussion with Todd, I asked him a simple question. I wonder what the U.N would call us Canadians if after the federal election the N.D.P party, being dissapointed with the results, placed anti aircraft cannons on pick up trucks, and drove to Ottawa armed to the teeth to over throw the government. Would they be considered " freedom fighters", or terrorists, by the U.N. Surprisingly, Todd stated on air , that I had made a good point.
I think part of the problem in todays media is we the people. In the last decade (or more) we seem to have a tendency to not want to research things the media throws out there. One example that should stick out like a sore thumb is Libya. Why was Gaddafi allowed to attend the g-20 meeting in Ontario last year? What input did he have at the meeting? Was he black listed for crimes against his people, or was it because he was attempting to collectively have Africa start to trade oil etc using a gold standard. Whether we agree on the reason the U.N helped to overthrow him or not , we must agree on one thing, our media is not investigating the truth. They seem to be towing the line for one reson or another.
One more thing, then Im off for the day, but some of you will find this priceless, or perhaps, disturbing. Last week my neighbor was over having a chat, he is about 36 yrs old. We were discussing LIbya and some of the other problems brewing in the middle east. He was elated that Gaddafi was killed, and was smiling ear to ear, which is ok with me, as that was his opinion. But what I found troubling was when I asked him where Libya was on a map, and what Libya was like before the uprising. His answer made me lol. He stated that Libya was next to Cuba, and most of the dwellings " cities" were war torn even before the conflict. I didnt bother to set him straight, as that could have proved a tad embarrassing for him. But in hind sight, maybe a quick reality check would have done him some good. Hope to get some other War v/s the media comments out in the open, have a great day...

The viewpoints and way your local media operate is not exclusive to your area. Here there is a guy that calls in almost weekly only to get told he is a tinfoil hat wearing person. He is persistent and it is nice as he is well spoken and our radio host just dismisses him or says, "And I suppose________was an inside job too"? But that tinfoil hat caller woke me up years ago because of the rude and obnoxious response he received. So media treating people like crazies actually got me to change a viewpoint.

As far as your neighbor goes, that kind of person is everywhere. Ignorant and has no idea what is actually going on because I am more than certain he is the chronic Fox news type person. My dad is in that boat and every week I have a conversation asking why he has the view he does. His answer is well I heard it on_____. To which I answer, so you have not read or looked into it on more than one news source. I look at MSM and alternative and then read newspapers from the country on which the news is made.

As far as geography I think most people would all but crap themselves if they knew how close Greece and Italy are to Syria and Libya.

Anyone who takes all that CBC reports as gospel should give their head a shake for sure. I have found by watching CBC, BBC and CNN plus Fox you can usually interpret the spin and possibly get an insight into what might actually be taking place. CBC is biased more than some less than others. Just because it's Canadian doesn't mean that it always relays the facts. Especially when it comes to reporting on the Canadian economy. Sometimes it makes me sick. What makes me even sicker is that many people take it as fact!

A couple of months ago the media was reporting that Canadian mortgage interest rate were going to rise significantly. So what did dumby me do but go and lock my variable mortgage in for 5 years for an increase of 1.5% . 2 % to 3.49%. Today the media is reporting that we are going to have historically low rates 2.5% for 5 years and that it should go even lower. Lesson learned I will go and get my own independant information.
